I have a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 board and I had intended on putting 32GB of DDR3 1866 RAM on the board since the memory kit was on sale. I wasn't sure if the DDR 3 2133 RAM I had from another system would be stable using an Intel Core i7-3870-E processor with the 2133 memory. The cooler from Silverstone seemed like it would be a great fit even though I hadn't seen one in the real world. I installed it on my board and even though the thing wasn't real tall I had two problems with it.

Number one it is very wide, in fact it is wide enough that it kept me from putting my video card a HIS Ice-Q2 7970 in the first PCI-E x16 slot. I did however install it in the second PCI-e x16 without any trouble and no hit in preformance. If I decide I want to run a pair of cards I'll have to find a different cooling solution.

The second issue is that it covered up two of the RAM slots one one each side of the processor. The 1866 RAM I wanted to use had a slightly higher heat sink and it wouldn't fit under the cooler. I took the other kit that consisted of 4 x 4GB DDR 3 2133 RAM which had slightly lower heatsinks and they did fit and will run at 1.65 volts. I installed all four DIMM's and when I started the computer the loaded at a default value of 1600 and even running in quad-core channel mode. I went and set the board to run them in XMP mode and so far have had no issues. The cooler is keeping my system at around 30 degrees celsius and it hasn't gone over 60 degrees celsius with a full load.

One issue that could be easily fixed is that the fan doesn't have anything on it to tell you which way the air flows from it (many have an arrow showing which way it blows). I had to turn it around so it was blowing to the rear of my system.

This cooler is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I have tried the RaijinTek TISIS Dual tower, the zalman lq320, and the hyper 212 evo. This performed roughly: 4c, 5c, and 20+c cooler than each respectively. I also tried the phanteks phtc14e, but the mounting system for that cooler would not work, so I can't given an opinion on that.

I run a fx-8350 at 4.73GHz, with all power saving features enabled at 1.48V and my temps are 52c with ambient room temps of 21c which gives an incredibly low delta of 31!!! Which is amazing.

This cooler has another amazing feature that I desperately needed. My Gigabyte MB is defective in that the MOSFET overheats in Prime95 even at stock clocks. So I needed a cooler that would be able to blow air directly on it. Thankfully the 140mm fan that pushes 171 cfm is right on it!!! Temps on my mosfet used to be 105+c and the system would lock up. Now they are a cool 77c max in stress testing, which is great!

One thing to note. You may not get all of the same temps as me, as I found this cooler hilariously mispriced ($34) on amazon and bought two. I then took the fan from one and put it on the other, so I have two of these bad boys on one heatsink. Works beautifully, I would HIGHLY recommend this cooler to anyone as long as the price is <$65. If it is higher though, then you could get the noctua nh d14 which will be a lot quieter with the same performance.

Just a last note, when the fan is set to performance mode, if the pwm is set above ~65% it starts to get LOUD and if set to 100%, it sounds like an R9 290 reference cooler.

The cooler itself seems to deliver pretty good heat transfer. In fact, it outperforms the slightly larger Noctua NH-D14 which I bought with the intention of replacing it (by around 2-3 degrees). However, the fan that comes with the Heligon is not particularly good in terms of noise. I ended up replacing it with a much quieter Noctua 140mm fan, using one of the supplied clips on one side of the cooler and a carefully-calibrated length of fishing line on the other. (It leaves a slight gap between the two cooling towers but this doesn't seem to cause any issues.) This DIY combo ended up with the best of both worlds: very good cooling and very low noise. Frankly I regret replacing it with the NH-D14 and may switch back.

I have a FX8350 @4.5Ghz which as we all know, can get pretty toasty...I originally had a modified H50 cooling it but I couldn't get over 4.2Ghz without it getting over the temp limit. I looked into it and finally decided on this monster, It fit just fine in my NZXT phantom. I use the fan in quiet mode so my computer doesn't sound like a jet engine. It cools fantastically, I have only ever see it at 55C under a stress test and around 45 while doing pretty heavy tasks. If I run the CPU at stock this thing is way overkill, it can almost run without a fan then...Well if you want a top of the line aircooler, and don;t want to switch over to low profile RAM then get this, you will not be disappointed.
