Shame on you. When I had to transition from breastmilk to formula, I researched the best hypoallergenic available. It was a toss up between Enfamil's Nutramigen and your Alimentum. Over and over again, Alimentum was touted as the superior product. It was expensive, but what my child needed. By expensive, I mean very expensive. Blog after blog, message board after message board, moms and dads were writing--begging--for a way to get this formula at a more affordable price. Most insurances do not cover this, even though it is medically necessary for several families. When asked, you encourage families to sign up for coupons and free samples. However, this particular formula (one of your most expensive) seems to be conspicuously absent from any of your discounts or special offers.
So we bought the formula at full price. 16oz for $29.99. $29.99 for, conservatively, five days of food. But families do what families have to do. And we decided to make it work if it would help our daughter feel better.
I just went to Target and Walmart to pick up some more. Surprisingly, the 16oz can was no longer available. It had been replaced with a 12oz can for $25.99. If you can't do the math, I'll do it for you. At $29.99 for a 16oz can, we were paying about $1.87 per oz. Now, we are forced to pay $2.17 per oz due to a "re-packaging" strategy.
You realize that you are preying on families with sick children? You are gouging families with infants that can only use this formula? That you decided to mark up the very thing that families rely on to feed their kids, and not only that, but you provide no way for families to get this cheaper?
Luckily, we are blessed with the ability to pay for this.Read more ›
