I used a laser boresighter to get the scope somewhat close to zero and then took both rifles to the range. I was on paper with both rifles and had both zeroed in no time. I put 60 rounds through the Mini-14 and 10 rounds through the XL7. The scope held true throughout the entire trip, even with the heavier caliber.
I have several different brands of scopes (including high dollar Leupolds and Nikons) and on a range, this scope performs just as well as the others. Eye relief is about what I expected for a < $100 scope, but visibility is still great. While I would recommend it more for plinking or hunting applications such as varmint or hog, I'm sure it would work for larger game as well up to distances of about 125-150 yards. Outside of that, I would advise stepping up to the 4x12.
This scope has remained on both rifles and I still target practice with it and hunt varmint/hog with it to this day.
Bottom line: if you can't afford the high-dollar scopes or you want a good scope for a low-valued rifle, this scope is the winning ticket.
- The price for this can't be beat. Seriously, for the quality of scope that you get with respect to the price, I am really impressed. No, it's not Leupold quality, but it's also not even close to the same price. You can buy close to 10 of these for the price of a Leupold. Would I put one of these on a rifle that I am packing into the mountains, heavily invested into an elk hunt, no. But for a range rifle, heck yeah. I'm thrilled.
- The zero has held between trips to the range, and that's an important hallmark of a good scope. Your zero cannot drift. My last trip to the range, I started to drift bad, and was confused, but soon realized my rings were loose on my Pic rail. Tightened them back down, and back on zero.
- The clarity through this lens is quite good, again, with respect to the price. I am equally impressed. There's a slight blur around the edge, but nothing worth worrying about. It's very slight.
- None to report.
Overall, I am thrilled with this scope, especially with the price. I bought the same scope with a 50mm objective that lives on my 45-70 and love that one too. It stands up the the beating of the 45-70 very well. Great scopes.

Due to the adjustment knobs being made from plastic... there is no significant "click" when adjusting the elevation or windage settings. This could be an issue if adjustments are needed while out in the field - especially if the temperature is 45 degrees or less.
However, when the scope is sighted in, it is very unlikely that you will need to make any further adjustments after putting a hundred rounds through your rifle.
Not having Mil Dots is not really an issue once you get used to the scope. The cross hairs are thin in the middle and a bit thicker on the outside - which actually works out well when targeting at different ranges.
I always sight in my scopes at 30 yards as I hunt in many types of different landscapes and this scope is just as accurate at 15 yards as it is at 100 yards. I've had this scope on spring and gas piston Air Rifles, a 22 Magnum, AR-15, 308 and a 30 Caliber PCP Air Rifle without a single scope failure. It's now attached to a semi-auto 22LR and going strong.
If you are looking for a good entry-level scope, you can't go wrong with this one - providing you are willing to overlook the above mentioned issues.
One thing to note is that if you are going to put this on an Air Rifle, make sure that it's broke in and that you use a good set of scope rings with a stop pin - or, better yet, a one piece scope mount made specifically for Air Rifles.
