Nice approach to encouraging exercise and better eating habits for kids, using man's best friend (dog). Cute illustrations and a funny easygoing story line will keep the kids interested! Try it, you'll like it!

Dogs apparently are different from humans: take the path of least resistance unless there is motivation to do otherwise. This is a very amusing tale of how fear of a fur-ball instead of a tummy - plus some nudging, loving support, and facing the hard truth that he was fat - gets Simon to eat healthy and exercise. Hilarious how he tries to hide the healthy food under the furniture to avoid eating it instead of something unhealthy, and how he fakes an injury to get out of exercise! The drawings are as delightful as the ways Simon resists making positive changes - you wind up loving him probably nearly as much as the author herself.

This book would be a delight to readers young and old, teachers, parents, and anyone looking for their own nudge - and a sense of humor - when it comes to achieving better health. Highly recommended!

This is a wonderful story that everyone should read especially children of all ages, parents, grandparents and all pet owners....a cute and accurate manual on how to influence a loved one to be healthy, and how to overcome resistances. It is a great lesson for young and old alike. And it is a scientific tale told by one of the world's leading experts, MIT's Dr. Judith Wurtman on diet and the consequence to humans and animals of eating the wrong foods. I have been following the teachings of Dr. Wurtman for over 18 years and have the utmost respect for her work. William K. Joseph New York City

Delightful book with an important message. This book provides a wonderful way to highlight the importance of nutrition and exercise to both dogs and children. Charming illustrations of Simon the dachshund as well!

Children will laugh, perhaps knowingly, at the antics of Simon, an endearing and wily dachshund
(Is there any other kind?) as he comes to grips with waistline issues. Friends and a kindly vet are his gentle and sensitive guides to the adoption and appreciation of a good diet and exercise.
The chapter book format and illustrations make it ideal for storytelling and independent reading.

There's so much crankiness surrounding childhood obesity that this book can help change the conversation to a lighthearted entry point of everybody, just about, eating too much and getting a tummy. Simon is an adorable little daschund wholly uninterested in anything but his favorite food.

I work for Dr Wurtman, in the name of full disclosure, so I know this book inside and out. Read it yourself and enjoy!
