Just an excellent book written by a brilliant storyteller. It's about parenthood, childhood and friendship. Marianne Fredriksson seemed to have a mystical side which she wove very delicately into this story through dreams and visions without overdoing it. Her characters feel real. She got the historical facts right too.

Wonderful story with many ideas and insights for thought. Easy to see why it is listed as one of the top ten Swedish novels to read.

Usually I read the book, then see the film, but this time I did not. The film portrays the character and tone of the book very well.
