Some cons: First, this book is a translation from French and some of the ingredients are things that might not be as easily accessed in the USA as they are in France. Stuff like merguez sausage or duck, for example, might not be behind your average American grocery store's meat counter. Also, one way that the cookbook keeps things simple is by using pre-made things like pizza dough, puff pastry, etc.; one recipe calls for pre-made gazpacho. These aren't necessarily things that you're going to find in good quality in the average grocery store. I live in a big city with amazing grocery stores and even I couldn't find the gazpacho. Second, this book doesn't go into detail about how to handle every step. I think it's expecting that people have a certain level of knowledge about cooking. So while it is "simple" in terms of ingredients and steps, I don't think it would necessarily be "simple" for someone who is new to cooking.
The Bad:
1. The directions were kind of cheating as it took many steps and made them into one. That was rather frustrating.
2. There are some translation bugs, making the steps/ ingredients a little hard to understand in some recipes.
3. It assume you had certain ingredients, and therefore did not put them in the picture, which was again, kind of cheating there.
4. The table of contents is caddywhompus. It does have a sort of order, but I really wish that it made the order transparent on the table of contents, so that it is easier to find a recipe.
The Good.
1. The recipes have been pretty easy to follow so far.
2. So far, I have no complaints about the tastes of the recipes.
3. It makes shopping so much easier, and I am might even be able to hammer out three meals tonight for other nights!
*The binding seems cheap on this book, but I did not factor that into my review, because honestly, I could probably fix that.
* Some of the recipes seem to have ingredients that most cooks in the USA do not use. I was about to factor that in, but really, that seem kind of narcissistic to do so, not to mention that I am sure that substitutes can be found.

I cannot eat fish or seafood, so be aware that a solid third of this book is fish and seafood. That is something Im used to, so didnt sweat it. There are so many wonderful, easy things to do, it probably should have the "Dummy" word in there somewhere!
"Simple" is truly simple -- a few ingredients, a little time, and voila one has a reasonably sophisticated meal to serve.
In several weeks, have used over 10 recipes. Okay, two were 'eh' but others were 'definitely worth doing again' ... and, well, even though I do know how to cook, discovered a few new techniques through this. Flipping through the pages, many recipes that we want to try.
Great gift, btw, to those relatively new to cooking ...

But the book I got has some very blurry, fuzzy photos like the pictures were copied off another copied print.
Also, the pages are made of a very thin, cardboard textured paper. Don't spill anything on it, ...it will crinkle up and stain. Should have used glossy paper that is standard for cookbooks.
Overall the content is good but the book quality is lacking.
