I am sure I will, because the steps are simple. Manageable. It's not just about the visual thing of living simple, or just about the way of mind. This book includes them both and puts them in 30 simple steps. Some of which I already feel accomplished but by standing still I saw some things I wanted to adjust as extra.
In some reviews I read that the writer is speaking too much about religion. It made me reluctant towards reading the book but luckily I do not agree on this at all!
Because the writer gives us an insight of how she managed to work with the steps, we can see that she is religious. But it comes up very randomly and isn't at all trying to convince you to believe.
An example of how you can come across this: in lesson 3 - quiet, she talks about devoting yourself to 20 minutes of quiet time a day. "You can sit and think, journal, walk without a radio, or pray. Breathe deep and let your mind wander where it needs to".
If this is already annoying you, then you might not pick this book. To me, this is life. Everyone is different and therefor the writer gives us different ideas. I would rather compliment this writer by sharing different ideas and acknolegding the many different lifestyles we live.
At the same time, the book was simplistic and a little idealized. The author has gone to extremes and seems content to live in a situation that would not be suitable for most people. Although her living situation does prove that it is all possible (some might doubt this!) I don't think that it is a situation that most people would prefer, even for a short 2-week vacation let alone a long-term living arrangement. Tiny house, 4 people, 1 bedroom (I think I am remembering this correctly), few or no books (they come online or from the library), etc. The motivation for this living style stems from the author's desire to spend money on other things, like travel experiences.
The book did inspire me as I am working on the difficult chore of downsizing. I'm not following the outline of the book, but I am retaining the outlook that my desired outcome IS possible and that I can do it.
The book is short -- I read it online while waiting for a delayed flight. There are some nuggets tucked away in the book, and it provided good encouragement and motivation that stayed with me even a month later.
Honestly, how helpful this book is going to be depends on what you know already. If you're looking for a fairly simple primer on what kinds of things to look at when getting started on minimalism, a handful of good resources to reference, and a few short, easy starter projects, you'll probably be happy with this book. If you've already got any kind of background with the idea and experimenting with it, you probably won't find anything overly useful here.
All things considered, I think you'd be better off browsing a few good minimalist blogs. The book is well put together, well edited, and easy to read. The author clearly did a good job putting it together, and has a friendly writing voice, but it's still really basic introductory information readily available for free online all over the place.
