When it comes to buying a camera, Kim starts by leading readers to think first about why they want to take photos and what they will do with them, which is a great first step that helps to narrow down the many choices available, and sets the scene for the description of the different camera types. As the book moves on to technique and composition, another nice touch is the inclusion of a number of Kim's own shots and the story behind them, which serve well to illustrate the points she is making, as well as adding personal interest. Topics on organising photos, post-processing, printing, and the critically-important backups, make for a well-rounded coverage of the whole photographic process.
Highly recommended, both as an introductory book or refresher, and a great concise reference on a wide range of topics.
The book provides excellent guidance on choosing a camera based on your own objectives, without a push to overcomplicate things with the plethora of accessories available out there.
I really enjoyed the chapters on technique and composition, with choice photos chosen from the author’s collection to demonstrate each point.
The chapter on organization was especially valuable if you’re going to be producing a large body of work in the future, or if your previous photos are unorganized and hard to find.
It was also great to get some insight into the editing and post-processing methods professionals use to finalize their photos.
Whether you have a big photography project coming up, or just want to take better photos on your next outing, this book will help you raise your photography to a new level.
As someone who loves photography and does it regularly, Kim's book is the perfect refresher as well as quick reference for me to ensure I'm doing things right.
I love it!
