Marcela Mangabeira was unknown to the wonderful Brazilian music realm until this CD of hers came out; produced and arranged by Maestro Roberto Menescal is enough to guarantee a superb product, and that's exactly what we have here. On top of that, Marcela's voice is sublime like we are accostumed coming from Brasil; very soft and relaxed vocal hues, but with so much melody; truly beautiful, so jazzy, so Bossa Novaish.

Another great feature here is that Marcela is covering songs by some of the most recent and important songwriters from Brasil like:

Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Donato, Ivan Lins, Caetano Veloso, Marcos Valle, Roberto Menescal, Johnny Alf, Jose Roberto Bertrami, etc.

Track list (not listed here at Amazon's page):

1. Rio

2. Love Dance

3. Para Ti

4. Os Grilos

5. Insensatez

6. So Quis Voce

7. Pr'u Ze

8. Eu E A Brisa

9. Pro Tom

10. A Ra

11. Voo Sobre O Horizonte

(Japanese Bonus Track)

12. Coracao Vagabundo

I'd recommend you to get a hold of it whenever it becomes available if you're into Brazilian Jazz, Jazz and Brazilian female singers. Simply beautiful.

What can I add to Senhor Papetti's and the other excellent reviews? Usually when a "promising new star" issues a freshman release, it's more promise than star. Not so with Simples, Marcela is already there, it's just the world has yet to catch on. Outstanding tracks include Para Ti, Insensatez, Os Grilos, and Eu e a Brisa, although there isnt a bad track on the CD. In short, Simples is like eating ice cream from the container; when its finished you find yourself wishing for more. -- DJ Arnoldo

This album kicked off my music interest in Brazilian bossanova. Very soothing instrumentals, lyrics, and voice. If you're looking to unwind after a long day's work, listen to this while sipping on a frappuccino on your patio

I first hear her on Pandora Radio. What a sweet angelical voice she has. I ended up buying 3 of the same cd's One for me, the others for my family. We all grew up listening to this kind of music.
You will not be sorry for your investment.

I was driving in my car, minutes from home and i heard the track, "Os Grilos" on the radio. When i entered my driveway the DJ mixed in another song so i raced inside the house to find the station on the internet and to see if i could locate the artist list. It was not until the next morning that i was able to upload a re-broadcast of the show and catch this title and artist. Well i received my CD a few days later and i am very pleased. She has a smooth jazzy voice and also does some tracks in english. I look forward to exploring deeper into the other tracks and i cannot say enough about the way she makes me imagine i am in Brazil at some club or lounge, having a coctail and digging a smokey latin jazz band. I cannot say that i am an expert on Brazilian Bossa but i could not help thinking about music i heard as a child in 1960's movies and soundtracks! It's cool like that!

Marcela Mangabeira is not exactly a stranger to Brazilian music fans across the globe... Her songs and arrangements have actually been around for some time on various CD compilations throughout Europe, Japan and of course, Brazil. You can find singular tracks from Marcela Simples CD, in collaboration with Roberto Menescal, Marcio Menescal, Alexandre Moreira and DJ, Marcelinho DaLua, (the latter three being the members and producers of BossaCucaNova), on various CDs and imports such as Versoes em Bossa, Uma Batida Diferente, Brasilidade, Beautiful in Bossa, and several other releases. Within these compilations, she keeps good company with other vocalists of the genre including Cris Delanno, Liz Menezes, Tahta Menezes, Monique Kessous, Daniela Procopio, Taryn Szpilman, Barbara Mendes; and male vocalists, Eduardo Braga, Marcelo Rezende and many others. Between these former compilations, and this most recent release from Marcela, we have a revitalization of Brazilian classics (or standards) by A.C. Jobim, Ivan Lins, Caetano Veloso, Vinicius de Moraes, as well as contemporary songs such as Corinne Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On" which seems do be doing equally well for both Corinne and Marcela within internet-based community sites, and the local charts, as well, though this song is not on her new release. However, the first three tracks: Rio (Roberto Menescal/Boscoli), Love Dance (Ivan Lins/Paul Williams), and Para Ti (Marcio Menescal/Bittencourt) will continue to be big hits for Marcela in the US as this CD becomes available.

Marcela is definitely consistant throughout her repertoire, bringing a light n' airy, uplifting spirit to all of her smooth vocals.
