I love Simplisafe first off. I have been a long standing customer (since 2013 Ish??). So before I even mention the outdoor camera, for all those who are questioning their financial options for family safety vs contracts & lots of service fees and equipment, stop 🛑! Try out Simplisafe. You have a legit company that will monitor your home safety AND call you /and/ or the police ASAP. The system is literally so easy and inexpensive to use and also the setup. (Literally like plug in and connect to WiFi). Tip -you can find a lot of renewed/ used Simplisafe equip on Amazon where ppl have upgraded to newer SImplisafe systems. You also have the choice to opt out and monitor your home via text and email ( you will get alerts and/ or live recordings sent to you). You can also have the police be alerted in case of emergency. It is VERY important to register your alarm system in whatever county or city you live in, or you can be fined hundreds of dollars every time police show up when contacted or whatever policy your local police have over unregistered alarm services. Ok so the system really Works! We lived in CA (prior to Texas ). We were in the process of remodeling our home ourselves, and we weren’t living there yet. We were a young family with lots of kids and babies to look after, so money was tight. We were hesitant to sign up with Simplisafe. Our hesitancy cost us THOUSANDS when thieves CLEANED us out of more than half my husband’s tools. Literally almost every tool we left in the house was stolen. It was AWFUL! Lesson LEARNED! We immediately realized that our personal belongings, furniture and home needed protection! More importantly our children and loved ones safety was our MAIN priority. Our hesitancy was because we didn’t know anyone who had used it and we questioned it’s reliability and the price was almost too good to be true. Literally the service for professional monitoring was around $15 a month ( early 2010s thru 2014). Also I was wondering if the products REALLY worked. So after the robbery, we immediately purchased one of the Simplisafe systems that came w/ a base, a number lock pad, window and door sensors (no camera though). I liked the fact that you also got to keep the equipment, even if you don’t use their professional monitor. The system was like peel and stick easy! We were thrilled! One early morning shortly within a couple weeks of signing up, we were alerted by the police and met them at our home. ( we still weren’t living in the house) Well luckily no one was there and that night had been a VERY unusually windy night. Basically the motion sensors and system was alerted by the forceful wind! That was the ONLY time it falsely alerted because one of our trees was blown and it’s branches hit( not broke) the sliding glass door. We were grateful and impressed by the accuracy and monitoring of SImplisafe. Just register your alarm because we were sent $100 fine because the police came out after we hadn’t answered ( heard) SImplisafe customer service trying to reach us. If we had registered the alarm, we wouldn’t have been fined by police station. Anyway so yes SImplisafe is LEGIT and I’m not affiliated or paid for my review. I just want people to know that the equipment works very well, customer service is great and the affordability blew all the other alarm companies out of the galaxy. No contract, it’s month to month. I think you can even trade in older system and upgrade systems for very reasonable prices. They don’t charge you more for service if you add more motion sensors etc. At the time we originally signed up they didn’t have an outdoor camera available yet. Fast forward to 2021 we still have Simplisafe and just purchased the outdoor camera. It works well. You can talk thru it and watch live. It is motion sensored so it will record and send you recordings of whoever walks close to it. No false alarms, and no cars driving by alert it. It is well made. Only time I’ve had an issue with it was when my wifi was bad and I tried to watch live camera from my location, which was my phone’s fault not SImplisafe.. Other than that, no probs works great. Give it a chance. Great alarm company and great prices.

I have trout of these installed. Great video quality during daylight hours and all right at night. They mention "seeing" in color at night, but that really depends on ambient lighting and distance as one would expect. The connectivity comes and goes even when they are just ten feet from my wifi router. I will have days go by with no issue then they disappear (not at the same time). Will update after a few months.

To start with the camera was supposedly going to be shipped the same day I ordered it. That didn't happen. It was a couple of days late, but realistically this is what I should have expected (2 day shipping). It said it came directly from Simplisafe (through their store on Amazon). What's weird is that if I purchased this directly from them I would have had to pay over $10 in shipping costs. I found this to be unacceptable since they sell the product through Amazon and with my prime account shipping was free.

Now to the camera. If you have the alarm system it only makes sense to go with this in order to keep everything operating within one app. So this is what I did. The unboxing and mounting of the actual camera was simple enough. Getting the app to find the camera was also easy enough (following the directions in the app). Problem I ran into was that the app kept telling me that it kept failing to add the camera, even though it did on my initial attempt. This was verified by my wife saying that she kept getting an alert on her phone saying motion was detected. Once I figured that out, went ahead and mounted it outside.

This is where I removed a star (maybe I should have removed 2). The 1080p doesn't seem as clear as (lets say) my 1080p TV. The speaker on my camera is barely audible and the delay in speech from user to receiver takes some getting used. I kept looking for a volume adjustment through the app but couldn't find one. Maybe its something I'm doing wrong, so if anyone knows please feel free to let me know!

Another issue is the delay from when it detects motion to when the notification appears on you phone. It seems to take forever (maybe 5-10 seconds). Maybe its because we are getting used to things being so instantaneous, but this seems to be too long a wait for the signal (notification) to come to the phone.

Another ding against this camera is the live view. It takes over 10-15 seconds for the camera and the app to sync. The app has to "wake" the camera and then wait for the feed to get to your phone. Just seems to be too long of a wait.

And just to be clear we are using this via the WiFi (router is about 25-28 feet away) and camera battery (not plugged in to direct power). Maybe that makes a difference. So, for the price, this camera seems to be too expensive for what it is capable of doing (for me that is).

The photos and videos from this camera are very good. The colors and details are great in “spot light mode”. The only issue I have with the camera is the slow “wake-up” time. To save battery life, the camera is kept in “sleep mode”. When it senses movement, it wakes up to record the activity. This wake time is too long. After around 8 to 10 seconds, the camera starts to record activity. This delay will often times catch action at the tail end.

All of my exterior cameras are connected to electrical outlets so battery life is not a concern for me. However, I still have the same issue as the camera runs off the battery regardless if there is an electrical connection or not.

As others have mentioned, the battery life in these are pretty week. Mine lasted maybe 1-2 weeks. Really depends on how much motion the camera is picking up, so if you are in a heavily trafficked area your battery performance will be weak. I am looking into hardwire options because having to re-charge (~5 hours) every 2 weeks is not ideal.
