Not as described, does not work with Google. Does not alert.
Went through set up actual system. It was easy enough to set up physically. It's a little disappointing that it's not immediately intuitive to view the current status of each sensor, you have to dig through menu a few clicks. No alerts for when a sensor is triggered other than the chime on the base station. Doesn't really work for self monitoring when you do not get alerts other than just the alarm. If self monitoring and buying again, I would go a different route. I would also buy a different vendor that does not advertise as works with Google(the reason I got it) when in fact it does not. If I am wrong, correct me and I can adjust the feedback, but for now it sticks.
Easy to set up! I do not use monitoring service since I'm home most of the time. Very happy with functionality, quality and components contained in the initial set up kit.
We have had security systems from two different vendors (one that came with our house, and one we tried later on). Both were workable, but very expensive...ESPECIALLY if we needed to expand them. Adding door/window sensors, cameras, etc. not only came with a very high initial cost, but also resulted in additional monthly costs above and beyond what we were already paying. One of the vendors' equipment in particular proved to perform quite poorly; it was centered around a touchscreen keypad that would often run so slowly that it could take 5 minutes for it to recognize that a door or window had opened. The vendor, of course, had no solution except to "upgrade" (at our cost).
We've been researching alternatives for months. In the meantime, we've implemented things such as IP surveillance cameras and doorbell cameras, at a fraction of the cost of those offered by the above vendors. In the end, SimpliSafe just made the most sense. Purchase the equipment we want, install it ourselves (installation was SUPER easy), and pay a reasonable monitoring fee every month.
All devices are wireless, so there was no wiring to be done. The batteries will eventually drain and need to be replaced, but that is a minor nit to pick compared to the ease of not having to run sensor and keypad wiring (or try to re-use what's existing). And the system can use both our home wifi and its own cellular connectivity to dial home, so we're still protected in case our Internet fails or is cut off.
The only significant downside is that it does not directly integrate with our other smart home devices and systems. For us that's not much of an issue, because we're able to keep track of the 3-4 apps between them all, but if we absolutely had to, we could replace our existing devices with SimpliSafe ones and not have to spend too much money doing so.
Overall, a great choice if you don't mind (or you enjoy) doing the installation work yourself, and have at least a basic set of technical understanding. They do have installation options, but if you're builing a system like this, you likely don't need them to install it for you.
I have installed a couple of professional grade alarm systems and I was very impressed by the features of this system and how easy it is to set up. The attention to good design is obvious with features like an optional cellular connection and battery compartments that are very easy to open. The keypad and base station have an attractive appearance and easy to use. The sensors mount using Command Strips, so you can remove them from the wall without damaging the paint like conventional double stick tape does. That is really nice feature if you are a renter. During setup, the app (Android) did crash a couple of times which was a minor annoyance, but no big deal.
We purchased after an attempted home invasion left us feeling scared. We love that there are multiple options for free vs paid monitoring. Super simple to setup and install. Only complaints are if your doors are inset and not even with the frame, you have to become MacGyver to come up with a way to install them. Had no trouble with our front door, but had to add a block of wood to align the sensor in the back. I also wish the home unit was a lot louder. We can barely hear it from other rooms.
The proof is in the name, simply safe! We just bought a new house and I really wanted to get an affordable system that was easy to install and use, and that is exactly what we got when we purchased this! You also have the option of what kind of subscription you want or can afford. I will say that the adhesive did not work at all on the textured walls that we have but we just nailed everything in and we have had no problems since! Overall this is such a good quality set and it’s so easy to use. It was absolutely worth the money and would definitely recommend it to anyone!
I was looking for a replacement for my Internet provider's "Quad Play" alarm and found this solution. I don't need 24 hour dispatch, just a system I can configure for my home needs. The product is very well thought out. Its design is clean and the packaging/setup is very simple (I have 8 entry sensors and a motion detector). I can configure how alerts are sent (email, SMS, push notifications), and whether to sound the main siren or not in each of the three modes - OFF, HOME, or AWAY - FOR EACH SENSOR. It also has "Secret Alerts" also settable for each sensor which just sends a notification (to your notification lists) without sounding an alarm if you want. When I received this system at first, the app had very basic features and almost returned it. I decided to call their support (ugh) but was connected right away with a very knowledgeable (US) agent. He politely informed me that to enable the features I wanted, it would cost $9.95/month (without 24 hour dispatch). Well, this is very reasonable, so I subscribed and all the features I mentioned above appeared in the iPhone app right away. I mean, they need to pay their software developers something to keep improving their features!
The only thing I had to do that was difficult was remove the battery cover on the hub and press the reset button to get the keypad to recognize and sync. Also the app is great with a widget that you can turn the system on or off using your phone's home screen.
Just got this. Easy to instal and very easy setup. The quality of the system is above average. I didn’t expect this quality. Originally had a blink system that worked ok but this is much better.
Very easy to set up and operate. The thing I like about the system is that you can use any number of senses on doors walls etc and put them wherever you want. The only problem I had was downloading the APP as I live in Australia and had a region problem as the APP was only available in the US. Very happy so far.
It says 'works with Alexa' but that skill is banned in Canada.
The machine needs a free 4G modem upgrade but SimpliSafe does not deliver to Canada.
The product was used and came WITH A MASTER CODE ALREADY INSTALLED but the code was not included. After about 6000 tries I got the code.
I apparently cannot buy any extra sensors or a replacement keypad in Canada as again Simplisafe doesn't ship here and nobody else seems to sell them here.
All I want is to use Alexa to arm this, and yet my Amazon account is Canadian so the skill is locked. Even though they sell the kits here new and used.
