Now let's talk about why.
Simply Smut is a fantastic collection of dirty short stories/vignettes from the early days of the Quickies in New York blog. The blog has put out a few other ebooks, all of which I'm sure are great (any regular reader can tell you they will be), but this one in particular has a special place for me. In my heart, and, um... elsewhere.
Why do I think you should own, read, and reread this collection? Well, it's dirty, for one. It's dirty in a simultaneously literary and filthy way. Descriptions are detailed and explicit when they need to be, but Guy New York is not afraid of adjectives, adverbs, or similes either. The collection also has a lot of variety, both in terms of the kinds of stories/situations presented and the point of view of the writing. Some pieces are more romantic, some are more graphic, some might surprise you or make you laugh, but all of them are smutty in the very best sense of the word.
I've been reading the Quickies in New York blog for a while, and reading Simply Smut has been a great reminder for me of why I started reading the blog in the first place. It's been great to reread stories that I was *still* occasionally bringing to mind a year or more after first encountering them. I've rediscovered familiar favourites, and found new stories that I'm not sure how I missed the first time around. I've always been more of a word-porn than visual-porn kind of person, and this collection is great, because it condenses all the stuff I loved most about the early blog into a super-portable, inconspicuous bundle of sexy. It's certainly improved my morning commutes on public transit, and ebooks are even easier to read one-handed than paperbacks or hardcovers.
In a lot of ways, Simply Smut actually reminds me of a more literary Penthouse Forum, the go-to porn of my youth. I think there is really something(s) for everyone in this collection, or at least, for everyone who enjoys dirty stories. And that's what we're all here for, isn't it?
Final verdict: Do yourself--or someone else--a favour, and get this book. In fact, at under $3, do yourself AND someone else a favour. Maybe even a couple 'someone else's! These are some quickies you'll want to have a couple times at least.
