Nearly a decade into their run, it's clear that The Simpsons is one of the best-loved and most influential television shows to come down the pike in a long while. If the show's attitude was a little less pervasive, this encyclopedic book would be aimed solely at Simpsons addicts. But that's not entirely true--Matt Groening and Ray Richmond have created a book that is essential for anyone interested in where TV is today. That's not to suggest that the book is serious, though--it's not. The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family (that's debatable, but who cares?) is a collection of everything related to the show, from all the "couch gags" during the end of the opening credits, to the complete words to the theme song from The Itchy and Scratchy Show. There are broadcast dates, credits, and hidden jokes for every episode. You'll even find a list of things that make Homer go "Mmm..."
If you're a fan of the show, you'll be hard-pressed to find fault with Ray Richmond's collection. The only glaring one is that the stills often look a little blurry. Oh, and couldn't they have come up with a funnier title? But that's nitpicking. Simpsons fans, you know what to do. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

However, this was before the internet had really exploded with things like wikis etc. and now reviewing the books as an adult I am less impressed and don't really ever see myself going through them again unless for nostalgia.
The information is very shallow and essentially all of it can be got just by watching the show. The book really should have been an annotated guide to the episodes with comments and interviews and behind the scenes info by the creators, because as it stands I don't think this is especially useful or interesting enough to warrant your time or money.

The information in this book is nothing you can't already find on the Internet. It is, however, arranged well, in a user-friendly design.
You're not going to get many behind the scenes insights into The Simpsons, but you will have a handy, dandy reference that you'll want to consult before watching a rerun. Reading about the episode before watching it again allows you to see so much more that you might have missed the first fifty times you saw a paritcular episode.
Essentially, this is the owner's manual to seasons 1-8.
is a well written book, covering the first 8 seasons
also some of the funniest ones) of our favorite family.
The book is loaded with page after page of useful information
about each episode (often limited to one page though but
still plenty of info per page) with colorful images, quotes,
trivia, character descriptions (from almost every character,
from God to Homer)The Stuff You may have Missed (items and
references you may have missed in an episode) Show Highlights,
blackboard gags, episode description and number, an introduction
by the show's creator Matt Groening, etc.
A great book for hardcore Simpsons fans and those
who are casual viewers of the show alike.
There are of course some errors to be found but only
hardcore fans might notice this on some pages (check
with the website SNPP.com for more info on this books
I give it 5/5 stars for being very well written and
filled with many Simpsons images to look at.
If you know someone like this, they will love this book. I watch the reruns with the book just to make sure I caught all the references. Tons of fun for that Simpson fanatic.
