I wasn't sure what to expect from this, the first episode in an ongoing serial. I've read other serials, and have often found that authors are so invested in making sure to entice a reader to continue reading their serial, that they try to do too much. Sin Eater, Episode 1 doesn't suffer from that at all. The authors have a deft hand at introducing the main character, his purpose, and the conflict, without dragging it down with minutia. The world created is intriguing and dark, the action moves quickly, and the secondary characters are also developed. I can't wait to read the next episode!

What a awesome, fast paced short story by P K Tyler. This story comes at you fast and furious and never lets up. This is the first episode so there is some back story and meeting of characters but even with that everything happens fairly quickly, but with a depth and precision that feels right for the story. So fasten your seatbelt for the demon rollercoaster ride of your life. I can't wait to see what is to come.

This first episode of "Sin Eater" blew my mind, freaked me out, and touched my heart. The writing was tight and fast-paced, which was perfect for this episodic format. The demon/exorcism parts were the stuff of nightmares. So creepy! And then, Nik and Zeph's back story left me in tears. This is an edgy, dark, wonderful LGBT story that will make your heart race for SO many different reasons. If you like your urban fantasy with some grit and bite then this book is for you. Can't wait for the other episodes in the season. Yay for diversity in books!!

“I am the perfect weapon, I can kill with a single touch.” – Melinda Salisbury, The Sin Eater’s Daughter

Unlike most people who work for a living, Nikolai Grekh’s job is of a unique and dark sort – battling demons and saving possessed souls.

The first episode in the Sin Eater serial is an introduction to Nik’s world. It is a strange one, fraught with darkness, horror, sensuality, physical and spiritual demands.

The battle scenes were well-written and the descriptions of how Nik got rid of the demonic entities were quite graphic and may not be for the fainthearted. They explained what being a Sin Eater entailed and it was no walk in the park.

Despite the limited length, it still shed some light into Nik’s childhood and how he met his best friend Zeph. It does not explain yet how Nik came to be a Sin Eater and why he was burdened with such a task. It does tell us from the get go about Nik’s sexual orientation though. My curiosity is piqued as we have here a Catholic gay man. I would like to see how this plays out – whether his faith and his sexuality come into conflict or not, etc. The answers would probably be found in the next episodes.

This collaborative take on sin eaters by Pavarti K Tyler and Jessica West was interesting and intriguing enough to make me want to read more about Nik. I know there would be a lot more to come especially after what took place at the end of this episode.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I don't normally like serial book series, but I really enjoyed reading this one. The story is well written and it grabbed my attention right from the beginning.

If you are a supernatural fan, then you're going to like this serial.

Very wicked way of looking at good vs. evil but I loved this story. Nik is the little boy raised in the care of foster homes until he gets sent back to a group home until he's old enough to on his own. He had to leave his best friend Zeph when he went back and it's been nine years since he seen him & Zeph is now a Priest. Nik was born to remove evil demons who possess humans and send that back where they come from, but it just keeps getting harder with each demon he exorcizes. When he comes upon a demon he's never seen before and he is so strong Nik isn't sure he will survive this one but he does save the human that it possessed. On his way home when he would normally dispel the demon he get's really weak and knows the only one who can help him is Zeph, so he calls and just as Zeph answers Nik passses out.
Tune in to the next episode for more details.

Um, holy wow. I know I can't complain about this being to short, it is after all being released in episodes. But man oh man, I about wept when it ended. I got sucked in, no pun intened, from the very first sentence. I love the idea of a Sin Eater. I've spent the last ten years watching the Winchester brothers send demons back to hell. And I've spent over half my life reading and watching various priests perform exorcism. I am throughly enchanted by the Sin Eater. The vivid descriptions in this book made it so very easy to picture what was happening and I cannot wait to see what's to come. On a side note, though Naamah was a very serious diamond, I laughed out loud at the name since it is the name of my sister's cat.
I received a copy of this book in return for leaving an honest review

4.5 stars

In general, I am not a fan of serials because I hate to wait - when I read a book (or a series), I want to be able to binge read the whole thing. But I really enjoy Pavarti Tyler's's writing, so I jumped at the chance to read her new collaboration with Jessica West. And I am so glad I did:-)

I love the concept of this book! I suspect anyone who is a Supernatural fan will really appreciate this serial. Nik is a Sin Eater - someone who naturally is able to cast demons out of people and literally consume the evil. In fact, Nik is compelled to do this whenever he 'feels' a demon-possessed human anywhere close by. But it seems that evil is growing stronger, and Nik is growing weary. He may not be able to prevail much longer.

Throw in his love for Zeph, his best friend from childhood, who just happens to be a Catholic priest, and well.... this could get interesting.

The authors do a good job of showing us just enough of Nik's childhood to be intriguing, and you are able to get a good sense of the world he inhabits. This is sure to be a spell-binding story.
