I've been waiting not so patiently for this final book in the Sinful Nights series and as I should have known, Lauren Blakely made it worth the wait!!
Michael Sloan is a man that has been in love with and has never forgotten his first love Annalise the French foreign exchange student he thought was his future when they were in high school together. Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, life got in the way and went in directions neither of them ever expected. With the murder of Michael's father, the life he had planned on with Annalise never came to fruition. And even though Michael never truly fell in love with anyone else. Annalise did which put just one more obstacle in their way.
Fast forward sixteen years when both of them are free and clear at least in the romance side of their lives. Although Annalise is still mourning the loss of her husband and Michael is still working to find the people involved with the murder of his father. When Annalise is going to be in Las Vegas for a job, she contacts Michael to see if they can get together. This sets us up for the most romantic and swoonworthy of the four books in my opinion. These two, even after all these years apart, have an undeniable draw towards each other. Although there is trepidation on Annalise's part about finally seeing Michael after all these years....
"How do you just have a drink with someone you once thought you'd marry? Someone who was your everything? She'd been his rock; he'd been her hope."
When Michael sees her for the first time, his heart is still so full of love for her and he's hoping she can find her way to feeling the same way about him. What is definitely undeniable is their blasting off the charts sexual chemistry. They're both adults now so the innocent love they had back in high school has been replaced with the kind of heat that can only be garnered with experience and the sexual desires of an adult.....
"Her heady moans, her breathy gasps, told him she was a woman consumed. He could smell her need, could feel it radiating off of her. She was a tuning fork, vibrating at the highest frequency of desire."
As they spend more time together and they each fall deeper in love as the people they are today, they both want whatever they can get together. The problem is that Annalise lives in France, Michael in Las Vegas and there's the issue of finding the evidence against the Royal Sinners and those involved with his father's murder. It all seems to lead to dead ends.....until it doesn't!!!
Mistakes are made by some key players, that have either been overlooked by the authorities or they were hiding their activities so well, it never occurred to anyone these people could be involved with something so heinous as the murder of another human being. And Annalise may have the key to some of this information. it seems like it's more than fortuitous that Michael and Annalise have reconnected all these years later. While Michael knows how he feels about her, he doesn't know if she has the same feelings but he does know that he doesn't want to lose what he knows is his destiny....
"This was his fate in life, to fall in love with the same woman over and over."
As the book progresses and details are revealed, I literally sat on my couch with my mouth open not expecting to read what I was reading. The way Ms. Blakely has written this entire series, culminating with the capture of the person and/or persons involved with the events that changed everyone's lives so many years ago is done brilliantly!!! It flows so well from present day to the past and back again creating the sense of urgency in me that I just kept saying one more chapter over and over again... I HAD to finish the book because I HAD to know how this all played out.
Can Michael and Annalise have the love and life they so richly deserve and want? How will all the secrets that have been kept for so many years affect everyone? Who is behind their father's murder and do they get their comeuppance for destroying their family all those years ago?
All of this will be answered when you read this final chapter of the Sinful Nights series. And if you're like me, you'll have a serious book hangover when you turn that last page!!!
The fourth and final Sloan sibling did not disappoint!!! As usual, Ms. Blakely gives us an amazing story!! Michael Sloan is like the perfect campfire roasted marshmallow!!! On the outside he is hard and tough... and his dirty mouth is hot enough to go up in flames. But oh, the inside!!! He is warm, fluffy, gooey, melt in your mouth delicious!!
As the oldest Sloan sibling, Michael has a job. To take care of his younger brothers and sister. After losing their father at the hands of their mother, he needs to fill both spots that were left vacant. At a young age, Michael not only loses both of his parents, but also the one great love of his life... Annalise. "They’d been torn apart by time and distance, not by hurt, or anger, or falling out of love. No one had cheated. No one had said unforgivable words. No invectives were lobbed, and no terrible secret had come between them. Their biggest foe when they were younger was miles. Thousands and thousands of uncrossable miles." Many years have passed, and life has moved on, but his heart has not. All of these years have not weakened his love for Annalise. Because when Michael loves, he does it completely, with his whole heart.
Annalise has been recently widowed and is having difficulty letting go of the husband she loved. There was a time, long ago when a different man was supposed be her happily ever after... Michael Sloan. But fate was cruel and the distance proved to be too difficult. Although her heart was broken, Annalise was able to mend it and love again. When she loses her husband, she’s not sure she can put herself through that heartache again. But after years of healing, work puts her in the same city as Michael once again. Annalise reaches out to Michael, hoping the connection they once had will help her to let go and learn to live again. Not love, just live – because love is too easily lost and hurts too much.
As Michael and Annalise struggle through getting to know one another again, the investigation into the murder of Michael’s father is heating up. So are the sheets!! There is an undeniable passion between them – they have no problem connecting in the bedroom, or the bathroom, or the closet… but can they connect their hearts again? Michael’s heart has only ever belonged to one woman, but that woman had shared her heart with another. “For so long he’d been defined by loving her. It was who he was. He didn’t know how to take only half of her heart when she had all of his completely.” Annalise not only holds the key to his heart, but also the key to his father’s murder investigation.
Annalise may have loved another man, but her heart is big enough to share. “She wanted him now, she wanted him always, and she wanted him to know that he was hers, and she was his, and she would give him everything.” Michael doesn’t understand how someone can love more than one person, since it’s only ever been Annalise for him, but he finally realizes that “Love had once been an all-or-nothing thing to him, but with her, love was more than all. Deep and intense, it echoed across time, reverberating to the past, soaring to the future, and, vibrant and bright, love lived in the here and now.”
Am also extremely elated that Michael Sloane who has scarificed the most in terms of himself for his siblings get his HEA. Rekindling with his one and only true love Annalise as returns to Las Vegas on a job assignment.
Their romance doesn't exactly pick up where they left off so many years ago as Michael is extremely guarded and Annelise is dealing with moving on from the death of her late husband. However, their love was always special and cannot be denied or resisted.
With the case involving the death of his father coming closer to being solved. Michael is more determined than ever to close this chapter of his life by doing everything he can to aid the officers working on the case. So much in this twist is revealed but the Sloane family finally gets the peace of mind and justice they seek in the end and Michael and Annalise get their peace also.
I absolutely enjoyed this story and series. :Sidenote -I would have love to see John get a spinoff book but happy he got and HEA also with Mindy. Great job once again Lauren. 5 well deserved stars.
