5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing first release.
By Musicman on April 23, 2019
Ben Platt has made a very spectacular splash on Broadway and in the entertaining arts and has generated more than a fair amount of hype to go with his fame. This release is a stunning and vivid testimony that the hype and fame is absolutely justified.

This is starkly emotional music and clearly a very personal accounting of relationships and how humans process the best and worst points in them as they evolve. Some of the songs are slower paced and packed with pathos that is clearly youthful but no less genuine for all it's innocence. Mid tempo tunes often have some serious punches to the emotional gut and more than a little truth that we all can relate to. Uptown be-bopping happens as well and anyone that's ever fallen in love will surely find these relatable.

On the topic of head-on infatuation and the abandonment of reason is one of the best tunes I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. You won't be able to help yourself from singing along while getting progressively more ebullient. "Share Your Address" is the song I wish was in top 40 radio when I first fell in love. It's pure fun and catchier than it has any right to be. No matter when you fell in love, this song will take you back to that time and make you smile.

The music itself is surprising and more complex than a typical pop-ballad release might be expected to show. There are some lush melodies here and several with a strong gospel flavor that call to mind some classic anthems or possible movie themes that get in your head and just won't leave. Ben Platt has a pleasant voice in the main and often showcases some fine timber and sweet vibrato. There are honestly some moments where he's a bit strident but not to the detriment of his story in those songs. He sings lyrically and with great passion and if he continues along this path he's sure to be a talent for his generation.

Ben Platt is sure to evoke the styling of many a great chanteuse and diva with his no holds barred delivery. Clearly he's a chanter to be reckoned with and holds great promise for the future of men in the arts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic in the making

Well, what to say about this album and the artist Ben Platt?

There are superlatives that could be used to describe this stunning debut album... The best I've heard in a long, long time, a future classic, a masterpiece etc and they would all fit this collection of songs by Ben Platt... However, even these superlatives don't to this album justice...

This has to be one of the most emotive heartfelt and guenuine collection of songs I have ever heard (even more so than Callum Scott's highly acclaimed debut album). From Older, to Grow as we go, to the most beautiful and heartfelt song penned for his parents... Run Away. Ben has crafted some of the most beautiful and emotive songs I have ever heard.

As for Ben Platt who penned all the songs himself and all of which were taken from chapters in his life.... All I can say is, you are a complete antithesis of the world around us today. This album is a small escape from the madness and struggles we face daily and while it is poinient and at times reminds of the fragility of relationships and all the emotions and turmoil that goes with them... It is done in such a way that everyone, and I mean everyone will be touched by and will be able to relate to the words they hear.

If you want to see the man himself and the videos that accompany the songs on this album (and I highly recommend you do so). Then head over to YouTube and see the songs come to life... I promise you, you won't regret it.

Another recommendation is to use a pair of headphones and just drift into this intimate world Ben Platt has created...

Yes, it will move you to tears in places, but if like music that can stir the soul, move your heart and your fire your emotions.... Sing to me instead, is the album to do it.

To anyone reading this review... Thank You. Now, hit the buy now button and give this incredible talent the success he surely deserves... And happy listening. 👍
