Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer have, once again, enriched the world of children's music. Here, they begin at the beginning, expertly guiding new parents to sing to their infants as a way to lovingly connect and teach via song. --Claire S. Green, President, Parents' Choice Foundation
My little family really loves music. My parents gave us an awesome iPod speaker dock for Christmas, and not a day goes by that we don't use it. Our tastes range from Jack Johnson to Lady Gaga to the Disney station. I've found that sometimes all it takes are some catchy tunes to settle rambunctious kids. So, I was really excited to learn about the new book and CD Sing To Your Baby by Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer. It playfully encourages bonding between little babies and the big people who love them, and I can't help but smile every time we open the book. The earthy songs are simple and the illustrations are bright and cheerful a perfect way to introduce a love of music to little Vivian. Now that I have three kids, I have to make more of an effort to give each one special time every day. Books like this make it easy for my sweet baby girl and me to enjoy some one-on-one time. This afternoon Evie helped me sing to Vivian. They both really enjoyed the Bouncing song that encouraged us to interact and move together. Watching 8-week old Vivian silently laugh for the first time as her big sister and I sang to her is a memory I will forever hold close. --Homemade Mothering (A Back-to-Basics Blog) - By Maureen
CD and Book Bond Parents and Baby Through Song Many parents never forget the time they spend bonding with their babies while singing lullabies. Because of this special connection, two-time Grammy Award winning artists Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer created the CD and playbook, Sing To Your Baby ($19.95). This 11-song CD and 32-page book comes with colorful illustrations and lyrics to guide moms and dads through the music. Over the years, so many parents told us that they lacked the confidence to sing to their own children. They felt their voices didn't sound good or they didn't know what to sing, Fink and Marxer said. They sing the songs in two different keys so parents can sing along, but baby will only hears mommy or daddys voice. The duo certainly believe that songs improve communicative skills between babies and parents. Music is magic. It soothes, expresses, connects, and creates opportunities for bonding. The rhythms are natural for rocking, dancing, walking with, and moving with your baby. We need to use every method we can to open the lines of communication with our children. By incorporating music and singing early on, these tools will always be available to parent and child. --Parents.com Goody Blog, Urja Dave
