First off, nothing can soundproof & deflect noises completely -- especially when you're living in a ground floor NYC studio apartment with two dogs! But I have been researching interesting solutions to help block, absorb &/or deflect sound. For my purposes, I needed a non construction based solution to minimize noise coming from my long hallway leading to the front door & then leading to the main lobby, mailboxes, & elevator. You can only imagine the noise. I'm actually pretty good with noise but my dogs on the other hand will bark if needed. And in NYC...living so close to your neighbors...barking isn't a good thing unfortunately.

So after much research, I found this double quilted panel & I had to give it a shot! I loved the double faced option with top & side metal grommets. For me, that's what I needed...as I wanted to suspend it from one wall to another. Basically blocking the hallway. I bought special hooks & it took less than 5 minutes to suspend. I have another hook on a side wall which will allow for me to take a panel corner, hook up, to keep open. Note: this is certainly not a curtain! It is a semi heavy panel of thick quilted material.

But my space is modern with grey/black tones & it works. It actually looks good & blocks my dogs from racing down the hallway to bark. Dual purposes...

It doesn't stop all sounds but it does really help! It blocks out a lot of noise, unwanted echo, & even draft...I'm very pleased so far & will update as I continue to use it.

I highly recommend for nontraditional spaces & modern applications to prevent noise.

I use this to cover my office door to keep sound in and out. As others have said this is NOT SOUND PROOF and is not intended to be. It merely deadens and contains the sound. It is good quality and shipped fast. - 1 star because one of the eye's is tearing... If you are like me and would like to use this to hang over a door, I found a pretty sweet way to mount on a track system. Simply go to home depot and buy the $15 sliding closet door track. It comes with everything you need to just mount the blanket on the brackets and you can slide it over your door when you wish to use it.

WARNING: There is fiberglass residue all over the blanket when you first open the package. I recommend taking a damp cloth and wiping it down to avoid itchy arms and hands when handling. Once i wiped it down i didnt notice anymore irritation from handling.

I bought this panel because I have a single pane window (all glass/no slider) which allows in a lot of noise and light. All night long people are driving back and forth on the road below this window. It's a private community so I have no idea who is racing by at 2, 3 or 4 am every single night. The lights and noise were bothersome. I do use a Sound Screen white noise machine which helps a lot, but I needed something more.

I bought this to dampen the sound and it has done the job. It does not eliminate noise, but it did reduce it. GIven that the rest of the room is all windows, it is impossible that one covered window would make the room "sound proof" but still, I can recognize that the sound from that part of the road is dampened. The greater benefit has been the complete elimination of light (headlights) from the street and my neighbor's "pop on at nothing" motion sensor lights. It has made that side of the room ultra dark and that is great.

The grommets make it easy to hang, although I would suggest not lifting it over your head without someone holding the other side. If you have back issues, it may throw your back out.

If I had more money I would buy one of these panels for every single window. My neighbor has a gardener who enjoys using his leaf blower more than anything in the entire world. He blows it for two hours outside my windows. He will spend several minutes trying to blow one leaf off of wet grass. Point it, it is super noisy here whenever that occurs, so I think these panels would be a great way of reducing that annoyance.

I live in a basement apartment separated by a stairway. I have hung this at the top of the stairway to block sound and smells coming from the upstairs apartment. The difference has been been incredible- this panel works even better than I expected.

I have a unit that I rent out and the neighbor is loud. Since the only place the wall is thin is two cubbies next to a chimney I purchased two of these, and some curtains. With these up, and the curtains in front I get excellent sound dampening and they look just fine. A good investment in sound proofing I could take with me when I leave.

I use this to adjust the size of my vocal recording "booth" and to stop echoes from a large doorway in my studio. They're super heavy and would let you turn, say, a bedroom or bathroom into a nice recording room.

Remember those fiberglass bleachers you sat on as a kid? Remember how you felt itchy afterward?
Instead, perhaps your parents warned you not to play with the insulation that was being put into your house because it contained fiberglass?

Well, fiberglass is not only what the batting of these panels contains, but they come with fiberglass all over the exterior, too. If you don't need to touch them on any kind of regular basis and you're willing to install them using gloves, but still get fiberglass around the install area, then these might be fine. For what it's worth, they do muffle (but not block) sound well, for what they are. That's why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1.

Too bad they are made out of an an annoying, and I daresay dangerous, material.
