Disguised as whimsy, wisdom often awaits to be unveiled. A phrase or thought that gives the reader cause to pause, reflect, and be uplifted. In Singing Through Life With Your Mouth Closed, the one-hundred whimsical sayings range from topics such as why we sing, to what we want, what others think, adversity, and forgiveness, among others. Joy Sikorski gives us a little gem of a book that can easily be incorporated in our busy lives. It is about setting ourselves free. About our choice to sing our way through life.
I am a singer. It was my first profession. I'm also a writer and educator. I happily traveled to Sikorski's digital book signing recently in Idyllwild, California at the Café Aroma. Each person attending was given substantial individual time with the author who, using a thought or phrase from her book, or something said by the participant, sang a personalized improvisational song for the participant. I couldn't resist, of course. I sang a short song to Sikorski in response. By the time I arrived home, an MP3 file was waiting for me in my e-mailbox. A copy of Joy's song for me, and my response, so I can listen to it, and be inspired, at any time. What a delight, a blessing, a gift. I strongly encourage anyone who is able to attend one of Sikorski's digital book signings to do so.
For centuries, the Australian Aborigines have understood our integral connectedness to the vibrations of the Universe; that all creation sings. They followed, and continue to follow, Mother Earth's songlines for hundreds of miles to guide them into the outback and home. Sikorski's whimsical sayings invite us to uncover and deepen our connection with the songlines of the Universe to find, deepen and express our inner and worldly voice.

The whole concept of providing positive, inspirational sayings to ease our minds is something I've never come across in your everyday voice or lesson book. The musical influence is to me very original and I think singers would definitely appreciate it. All said and done it's not the art of singing that makes this book though; it's the influential subliminal suggestions that Joy has provided for the voice to connect with the mind.
You can tell as you read the sayings, Joy's writing flows effortlessly and with a certain grace that makes you feel that you can't wait to read the next saying. It's the sort of writing that elicits deep emotions and brings out the most beautiful parts of your imagination.
This book will always have a special place in the hearts of singers, artists as well as the everyday person who seeks inspiration in their life through the whimsical sayings of Joy Sikorski throughout this book. I hope Joy will write more in the near future. Great Job!
