The pacing could use a bit of work, and was really the reason I docked a star. The first 20% of the book is just back story on the MC. Unless it somehow comes back in future installments (I've read both of the first two - the only ones written to date), most of that was simply unnecessary. Later in the book, there are similar, albeit shorter, sequences where a LOT of exposition is given for setting. Mostly, it's just not necessary in the context of what this book is trying to be. I also felt like the book was pretty darned aimless. This isn't as critical in a humorous erotic tale as it would be in another novel, but the MC has no direction or goal whatsoever through the first 60-70% of the book - other than to simply get laid. To be honest, that doesn't really change in the last third either, but it always seems like he's pursuing "side quests".
The writing has some editing flaws, but nothing that detracted from the book, IMO. I'm usually pretty forgiving of this sort of thing though.
Where the book shines is with it's inventive and extremely humorous language. Just thinking of the MC's character and exploits, I have to chuckle. The author did a great job with him. Also, the female leads are well written and very different from one another. For erotica, there are actually very few sexual encounters. Most of it takes the form of the MC's thoughts - which, again, are usually hysterical. The author doesn't shy away from some of the more indelicate subjects either, which was kind of refreshing. It's very difficult to find truly original erotica, but this book nails it. The author just has a way of titillating without even having his characters engage in sex. He really puts you in the mind of this hornball and makes you think and feel what he does. That takes skill.
I won't rate the second book, but I will say that it's much inferior to the first, IMO. This is especially surprising given that it's slightly longer and doesn't require the lengthy intro/back story for the MC. Despite this, the setting exposition and useless churn of the novel is much longer in the second than the first, and the sexy bits are fewer and less inspired. Also, the end of the book two is indeed a bummer that's setting the MC up for future installments (which may or may not ever be written).
Highly recommend checking this one out. It's good, funny stuff.
