Revenge never tasted so sweet . . .
When Clayton Campbell shows up on her doorstep, Olivia Swift is stunned. For long ago, Clayton was the boy who stole her heart. He's also the man her betrayal had sent to the gallows. A man she believed dead, now standing before her, looking leaner, harder, more powerful than ever, his haunted eyes filled with a lust she had never seen—for vengeance . . .
Or burned so hot . . .
He has more than once faced death and escaped unscathed. Yet Clayton Campbell cannot deny that the sight of Olivia rouses in him something more than a thirst for revenge. Or that the bold beauty would lure him once more into a dangerous game. Only this time, Clayton plans to be the victor— with the tempting Olivia in his bed as his prize. But once passion ignites between them, the hard-hearted agent will face his greatest battle yet— for his heart . . .
About the Author
Anna Randol lives and writes in sunny Southern California. When she’s not plotting sexy storylines, she’s usually eating chocolate, having wild dance parties with her kids in the living room, or remodeling her house, one ill-planned project at a time.

That issue aside, I loved the setting in Russia and loved seeing Ian. I am dying to know what happens with Kate and her husband - I hope that story line is concluded in the next book.
Overall, well written, great chemistry and great secondary characters - highly recommended!
In chapter one Clayton returns a decade later with vengeance on his mind. He wants to shut down the mill and ruin Olivia and her father. This is where it all goes to hell in a handbasket. Without warning, Sins of a Ruthless Rogue careens out of control into a confusing road trip spy romp. It seems Clayton wasn't hanged all those years ago because he was recruited by the Crown to be a spy instead. While you're scratching your head over that one, get this, Olivia is kidnapped because of Clayton's teenaged love letters which were evidently sent in some unbreakable code. By a 17-year-old. To his girlfriend. Who decoded them. I could go into more detail why this makes no sense, but trust me, it makes no sense. Based entirely on this and Clayton's return to the town, the kidnappers think she's the top secret spy Clayton has partnered with throughout the past decade. Apparently they didn't ask around town to find out that she had been living there every day of the past ten years. She is whisked off to the Continent and the rest is equally baffling, poorly written, with modern expressions that constantly take the reader out of the story. The book is chock full of cliches. I didn't give a damn about any of the characters, least of all Clayton. There is no chemistry between Olivia and Clayton. This book is simply ponderous. I could barely finish it.
HEAT RATING: MILD

To say this story has everything is to say the least. Rogues and revolutionaries, treason and torture, murder and mayhem, blackmail, scandal, revenge... spies, agents, thugs, assassins, princes, princesses, czars, peasants... seriously... this story has it all, including a believable romance and some steamy lovin'. It's a uniquely intriguing tale with compelling characters, and I loved every minute I spent reading it!
And speaking of compelling characters! The first glimpse we're given of Clayton and Olivia are as a young, engaged couple. Clayton is a noble, honorable idealist, and Olivia a fairly naive, spoiled young woman. They both think they're doing the right thing, for the right reason, but in the end, both are devastated. When next we see them, it's ten years later, and they are so far removed, so very different from the people they had once been. Both have been betrayed in one sense or another and they've learned that it's safer to trust no one but themselves. And this, believe it or not, in my opinion, is where the beauty of their love is born.
One of my favorite things about this story is the happy ending which, because it wasn't easy to get there, felt so real! So believable! To have any hope of surviving this deadly mission, Clayton and Olivia have to trust one another enough to share their secrets, and to put the past behind them. Trust... no relationship is worth having - or can survive - without it, and that's the lesson they have to learn. And their happily ever after, once they got it, was hard fought and well deserved.
Anna Randol is a unique, fresh voice in historical romance, and I am so looking forward to reading more by this very gifted writer!
My sincerest thanks to Avon Books for providing me with a copy of Sins of a Ruthless Rogue in exchange for an honest review. It's been such pleasure!
