Addiction can be a painful thing to experience, for the addict and those around them. Geneva tells the story of Faith Kane and Jude Mercer, who meet at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. First impressions aren't great, but there's something about Jude that makes Faith's mind and body go somewhere it hasn't been in years. The circumstances of their chance meeting; however, cause Faith to put up her walls and question those places her mind and body are leading her. Meeting at someone, even someone as sexy as Jude Mercer, at a NA meeting, couldn't possibly turn out well.
She quickly realizes that everything isn't what it seems. Everyone has secrets buried deep within, and through spending time with Jude, she decides he might be worth unburying all those deep dark secrets, until she finds out one major secret of her Nana's that sends her whole world into a tailspin.
Parts of this story are so gut-wrenching and relatable. If something in it doesn't touch you, then I'm speechless.
Kudos to Geneva Lee on this soul-bearing HEA.
This book couldn't have been an easy topic to write, and for many I'm sure wouldn't be easy to read on the subject. I felt the author did a wonderful job at portraying the emotions addicts go through. The daily life struggles, and so much more. This wasn't just about being an addict, but trying to recover from horrible mistakes of their pasts, being a single mom, and doing the best she can day by day. All she wants is to provide for her son. Make sure her son has the life he deserves. She will do everything it takes to keep her son happy, even if she feels that means sacrificing herself to do so.
Jude moves in to town, and starts to show Faith she doesn't have to be alone. And it's okay to break some of her own rules, so she can find happiness, without having to sacrifice for her son. I found myself loving Jude's character. He is so unique, and has a lot of special characteristics, that just drew me to him. I found myself wanting to know more about him through the story. I knew there was more than what was being told, and that is what hooked me.
The author told us a triumphant story, one filled with loss, drug abuse, love, friends, family, and so much more. I found myself sucked into the story and forgetting everything else going on around me. This is what I like. What I crave. When an author just draws me in and I can't put down my reading device. I was so happy I read this. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend read. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, is through the story, we got flash backs from present day to before. Which I love, usually, however; I found myself getting a little confused as to who's POV it was being told when things were happening. Again this was only on the before part of the story, and didn't stray me from loving this book. This is going in my top ten reads of 2016! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
So I clicked this one up because I kept seeing on Ramblings Blog (Tracy’s). Im floored at what I just read. I never in my life imagined that this was what on the pages of this incredible book. There is no cliffhanger but you will be flabbergasted. In order to not give spoilers Im not going to go too in depth but I can 100 percent recommend that you click this one up. Its free on Kindle Unlimited.
Jude Mercer is a man like no other. He wants to save the world because he lost someone that apparently he couldn’t save. The man is a picture of beauty inside and out. His heart cant be real. He cant be real. How does a person that has lost something and carry that guilt with him turn into a savior. Jude wants to be Faith’s savior but taking that chance is something she isn’t sure she can do. Her sins run deeper than Jude can imagine. Although they have not shared their sins, she is certain his don’t compare to hers.
Faith Kane is a single mother to Max. Adding to her hardships, her son is also deaf. For whatever reason she has been blessed with a loyal friend, a great school for Max and manages to make her ends meet. Her life isn’t all sunshine and roses but its not hell either. Her meetings help her cope. The drugs, the alcohol, her sister Grace and her fading Grandmother are the burdens she carries. Letting Jude into her life is a mistake. He doesn’t share at meetings but he listens with intent. He seems to know how to not give up. Maybe Faith can learn from him or maybe he will be her heartbreak.
This book is very deep, its riveting, and will allow you to see that everyone deserves a chance at redemption. The beauty of unconditional love is woven so intricately into the pages of this brilliant read.Read more ›
