Gr 8 Up—In this mix of fantasy, romance, and steampunk, Nym, a former slave and Elemental who risked her life to save her embattled homeland, is bereft at the loss of her storm-summoning powers at the hands of the villainous shape-shifter Draewulf. In this sequel, she stows away on an airship and encounters Lord Myles, who offers her a solution whose price may be too high. "A touching and empowering testament to the power of true love and of knowing who you are, Siren's Fury is a solid, slightly steampunky follow-up to the fantasy-driven first book that will leave you with a sigh--and a craving for the next volume in the series." - USA Today

Nym the main character has saved Faelen with powers of the elements that she has. Her family has passed down these powers genetically, though Nym is an anomaly since normally only the men receive the powers. She soon finds out that the Draewulf isn't dead she thought, but embodied Eogen. Draewulf destroys her powers and Nym has to find a new way to fight for her cause.
Powerless to defeat Draewulf without her powers she seeks to regain them or develop new powers, but the cost is steep and she faces a troubling choice.
I really have enjoyed this series so far and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Setting is great, world building mostly solid, characters phenomenal, writing well done, and thankfully no ultra-graphic language, romantic scenes, or violence. There is mild language, but of the world's words, not what we would consider foul language. There are several romantic moments, filled with tension, but it's all clean and nothing more than a drawn out kiss. There is definitely violence, but it's tactfully done and with minimal graphic descriptions.
The pace seemed a bit slower than the previous book and the story was not quite as engaging, with Draewulf seeming to spend much of his time locked away in his room on the airship, but these are issues that will likely resolve themselves as the story continues.
While I had purchased a print copy of this book, I listened to the audiobook version due to time issues. The narration by Sarah Zimmerman was fantastic and her accent enhanced the text.
If you have enjoyed the previous book, then definitely continue the trilogy. I am quite curious to see where the final book takes Nym, and I'm looking forward to reading it.
This story starts up where the first book ended, and from the very beginning it is non stop action. Nym goes through so many emotions in this book..... from joy, to shock, to sadness, to feeling lost, to finding friendship, to suspension, to many other emotions. She struggles with what her purpose is and how she can help those she's come to care for.
I went through many of those feelings with her as I got into the story. I cried, laughed, chewed my nails, wanted to yell at the her and also wanted to beat the living day lights out of the bad people!
In the end I felt I could breath again, but now I'm ready to take on the next part of this series. The last book I'm sure will be just as fantastic and full of adventures!
