I've used this in windy subzero temperatures for long exposures and never had any issues, and the carbon build certainly helps in not being as cold to the touch as a comparable aluminum tripod. The padding on two legs instead of just one is a nice bonus as well.
My only complaint (although not enough to knock off a star) is that swapping the center column is a bit of a chore, especially out in the field.
The 'quick release' plate that screws on the bottom of the camera is a pain, but serviceable. Make sure you have everything secured before swiveling the head around... I recommend you order another one of the camera-attachment so you don't have to deal with moving it between camera body and telephoto mounts.
The C-10X ballhead is compact and lightweight and can easily hold my Canon 5DIII and 24-70 2.8L II or 70-200 2.8L II in the horizontal position. While the ballhead can also hold these combinations in a portrait position, I feel the tripod is not quite as stable in this configuration. There is a small amount of sag with a heavy load on the C-10X but is minor enough not to affect most shooting situations. With the 4-section leg design and a height of about 49” (without center column extended but including ballhead), I have found the C-024X to be as stable as any travel tripod I have used. With the center column fully extended, the height of the tripod is a little over 57” which is respectable for this type of tripod. I have yet to use it for any long exposure shots but I am confident it will perform well under relatively mild conditions. There is a hook at the base of the center column to hang weights or bags to add greater stability which will help offset windy conditions.
I did own the T-025x which was lighter and more compact than the T-024x. However, the T-025x is a 5-section leg design and the center column is fixed (with an adjustable inner tube). Because of these 2 areas, I found that the T-025x is not quite as stable and is more prone to vibration. Sirui also makes the excellent T-1205X CF tripod but that also has a 5-section leg and is more expensive than the T-024X and doesn't include a ballhead.
The one thing that I don’t like about Siriu is they publish this tripod weight at 1.5 lbs but that is without the ballhead. This is misleading because the published weights for their other tripod/ballhead sets are the combined weight. With the ballhead, this combination is closer to 2lbs which is still extremely lightweight for a tripod/ballhead combo but heavier than what I thought this set would weigh.
-Relatively Lightweight – I am estimating that total weight is between 2
-Folded length is under 16”
-Arca-Type quick release
-Reverse folding legs
-Max height is about 57” which is taller than many equivalent models
-Load capacity is stated at 13.2 lbs
-A short center column is included
-Much greater stability than other similar travel tripods
-Total height of 57” may be too short for some requirements
-Small ball head with some sag depending on load
-Overall tripod stability is solid but not great, especially in windy conditions with no additional weight added.
-Price may be high for those on for those on a budget.
If you cannot afford the T-024X, then you may want to consider the aluminum version which is only .5 lbs heavier.
Sirui T-004X Aluminum Tripod with C-10X
This seems to be a much better value than the T-024X but I have not used this model.
If you are on a tighter budget, a great sub $100 travel tripod is the Dolica TX570 Ultra Compact Tripod:
Dolica TX570B150SL Ultra Compact Tripod with Professional Ball Head (Black)
I have used this for a few years on trips and it's proven to be a decent travel tripod for the price.
Another sub $100 travel tripod is the Slik Sprint Pro series:
Slik Sprint Pro II Tripod in Gun Metal With Quick Release Ball Head & Case
I have also used this on several trips and found it to be acceptable for many situations. It's taller than the Dolica; however, you would have to change out the ballhead to support anything heavier than a mirrorless or compact camera.
Ultimately this tripod will not replace a full size tripod. A full size tripod will be much more stable with a larger and stronger ball head but also will be bigger and heavier than the T-024X. However, the T-024X is a great blend of size and practical functionality and I believe today it is the best travel tripod available for the price range. Anyone who is on the fence about purchasing this great tripod should go out and buy it with confidence.
