About the Author
Jennifer Flanders graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. She completed two years of graduate work at SMU in the same field before she and her husband, Dr. Doug Flanders, started their family. She took her final final just two weeks before their first son was born. Since that time, the author has put her math background to good use by "staying home to multiply." (It has also come in handy as she's home schooled their twelve children, teaching counting to calculus, and everything in between). In her "spare"time, Jennifer enjoys reading, writing, singing, playing with her kids and grandkids, visiting with her husband, and doing a wide variety of needle crafts.

The book is 161 pages long, broken up into 17 sections and 111 chapters. Each chapter is one page long, which is what makes it super easy read! You can just read a few pages and set it down, come back later, pick it up and read a few more. Or sit and read through half the book in one sitting like I did :)
I truly enjoyed the entire book. Although we already do sit down and eat dinner together as a “large” family, I gleaned some new ideas for myself from it as well. Such as the chapter on cleaning the kitchen. She has her kids do each kitchen chore for 1 year before switching to fully master it and to save fighting over who’s turn it is to do what. I think that’s a good, useful idea. Also, using a dry erase marker to write “dirty” on the inside of the dishwasher while the dishes are dirty to save people from loading dirties into a clean load. The dry erase just washes off with the next wash.
There are also a few chapters on different themed meals to “break up the ordinary .” I think those were a great find as well that I will be putting into practice one day. Such as Hawaiian Luau night, Mexican Night-along with music & decorations and Costume Dinners.
There’s almost 50 pages of recipes in the book (broken into chapters as well) that I quickly devoured (no pun intended!) to see how a mom with 12 kids could make such simple wholesome meals. Every recipe is simple and as “every day” as they come. Which is exactly what I like! Such as meatloaf, side dishes, breads, soups, etc. None of the recipes asked for a million ingredients and I believe only 1 asked for a “weird” or hard to get ingredient. That was a bonus! We tried 3 of the recipes in the first week alone! All were good :) (for the record it was meatloaf, meat sauce and roasted Brussels-the last of which I loved!).
I definitely recommend this book to anyone with a family. 1 kid or 20. Literally everything in here applies to any family size at all. It was a good, informative read and I look forward to purchasing and reading her other book “Get Up and Go.” Along with a few other great looking titles!....
