I was really hoping for some more meat and potatoes stuff on what I could actually produce as an info product, but this book fell slightly short of its promise. It used a lot of powerful language and amazing catch lines that get you really pumped, but I felt like it ultimately under-delivered. Not questioning the sincerity of the authors here, just the overall quality of their product.
Jon deals with many of the excuses, hype, and barriers right up front. While some of the techniques and information is common with other books on this subject, I found this one puts everything together in a concise and clear manner. The information on the website analysis tools alone was worth the price.
An unexpected and pleasant surprise was I had a question about something in the book and sent an email to the address in the book and actually got a personal response back from the author in 24 hours. - A very nice touch.
If you search online, you can probably find all the stuff in this book for free. The advantage of this book is that it concisely summarizes most of the important things in one place. Unfortunately, the tips and hints are concise to the point that they are too general. Instead of going into more detail, the author would often discuss something and then refer you to search his own website for more information on the topic.
I found this to be annoying because it happened pretty much on every other page of the book. It also felt like the author was trying to boost traffic to his site by mentioning it so many times. For example, why would I go to his website to search for "google website optimizer" when I can just google google website optimizer and learn way more about it that way? To be fair, the author mentions that technology gets dated pretty quickly, so he refers you to his site for the most up-to-date information. This still doesn't completely dissolve the feeling that the author is trying to get more visitors to his site and the feeling that he's kind of taking the lazy way out by teasing you with some information but not following through with the delivery.Read more ›
