I have to agree with the author, I have found nothing the least bit erotic about the book. While there is a lot of sex, none of it is at all erotic or even slightly titillating. In fact, it is sometimes hard to figure out if any sex actually took place. If you are looking for a book for the purpose of reading something sexually exciting, this is definitely NOT for you.
Being a guy, I can't comment on whether this is "chick-lit", but, if it is, then I have to wonder about what kind of "chick" finds this an enjoyable read.
Anyway, I'll admit, I've only read 17% of the book (and am not sure I'll be able to finish it), but it is not an easy read so far. It's basically about an abusive, controlling relationship as described from the female's point of view in almost a stream-of-consciousness format. It is often puzzling trying to determine what the heck the narrator is talking about.
Fortunately, I got this book for free. But if you are considering buying this book, I STRONGLY suggest you read the free "Click to LOOK INSIDE" or the option to read a free sample first. Some people seem to like this book, but I'm leaning toward never reading anything else by this author again.
More than just a play on words in my eyes. Throughout this book you get to look into the life of the main character and her exploits...This is not for the weak of heart or mind. Poppet doesn't bother with having words that lightly skirts an issue. She stomps on you with booted feet, pulling your hair, and whispering in your ear "Now say Thank you may I have another!" If YOU can't hang with the true emotion that a good book can exhibit do not try to read this book. It is raw, mean, and unadulterated. It is the purest form of perfection in the eyes of one that has read one great author after another.
This should be a must read for young adult females before starting the relationship game. This world is not full of Prince Charmings like they are told by Disney they are full of more "Gary's" than "Richard's" which makes me sad since I have a daughter that may someday find out the difference between the two. I will however make her read this book before she decided to take a step in that direction. This book should also be read by young men as well as a guideline of what not to be in a relationship.
In all this book ripped my heart out on a personal level, knowing that the author had to live what she wrote. It brought me pain from remembering my previous "exploits" where I too had been the "exploited" and the "exploiter" just like Stef in this story. Once again though Poppet put that salve on my heart that only she possesses with the experience of the ancients. She pushed, pulled, screamed, cried, smashed, cuddled, and then gave some more with this read. Amusement parks do not know the meaning of "ride". Truly the most remarkable, life changing, giving-me-the-ability-to-be-thankful-for-my-life book.
And Yes Ma'am I would like another!!!
