I was previously unfamiliar with the author's work; while this is the second in a series, the references to the previous adventure are slight enough not to take you out of the narrative. The prose strikes the perfect equilibrium of neither telling more than necessary nor neglecting any essential details; it is the epitome of what I believe these New Pulp writers are aiming for.
A fun and different (for me) read. Highly recommend.
