Top customer reviews
1 - The software defaults to ecplis1 and so it refused to see my new eclips 2; after much struggle and reload of drivers, reboot etc, I finally found a single reference on the web to this fact, went in changed the setting to eclips2 and bingo it started talking and working.
2 - The Bladed Depth setting can go "past 6" back to 1; I was unsure and nothing in the documentation indicates this, so I used it for a while at the "super" 1 setting and it did a lot of damage to the mat, before I realized that it was really supposed to be unscrewed out a fair bit. I think that the manual could explain this better, or it would have been nice if the hardware prevented you from going past 6. Once I realized this, I set it back to a more normal depth and it stopped damaging my mat!
I have cut a tons of stuff, the first project was to cut out on heavy card stock all 50 states.... 10 times for a small Kindergarten class. It did great, I cut them out with the whole US about 17" wide; on 5 different repeating colors. Printer and software both worked great. (using inkscape, ecal full version) One note, you do have to change the ecal preferences for SVG DPI to import properly from inkscape, it defaults to adobi, which is ~75% different. Even super detailed tiny states like Maryland came out perfect.
Next Project was some doilies! Also came out perfect... the only downside is scrapping hundreds of pin head size pieces of paper off my mat (this was probably made worse by my overly deep blade setting having messed my mat up)
Next did the governors mansion form Williamsburg for a scrap book presentation of our class trip to Williamsburg. Again I was pleased how it came out, though it was unable to cut the <1mm square windows oops not unexpected if I had thought about it, I had originaly designed it for 12x12 but then scaled it to 5x5 to save paper...
Next up cool literary sign post on vinyl (fortunately I had figured out the blade depth buy this time. Set it at 2.5 or so and used ecal vinvyl settings) This worked pretty well; a couple areas I had to snip out, but for the most part it cut the vinyl but not the backer; I still suspect that damage to blade and mat from initial over deep cuts made this not work as well as it would have with a new blade and mat.
I'm looking forward to more neat projects with this fun device. Halloween decorations are next!
The only real annoyance is with eCal, I would super duper love it if they would enable using the Ctrl + mouse scroll for zoom almost every program I have used in the last 10 years does this standard...
All around this is a great die cutter, I'm very happy!@
Update, years later still really enjoying this cutter, updated mostly to add a picture of the dual voltage power supply.
We used it to creasy a sticker logo for a trucking company and it's really easy to use.
We're completely new at this, never used a sticker machine before and I'm glad we started with this one! I recommend this Sticker machine to anyone, even if you're not too tech savvy.
Note that I did pay to upgrade the software that came with it-- if you want to do advanced things like importing images/SVGs of custom sizes, then you're going to need to pay more money and get the better software. I used the Print-2-Cut feature and really found it very handy, though sometimes I needed to align the laser a pixel-or-so off to get a perfect cut.
All-in-all, it does something amazing with only a little bit of headache. For a powertool of this magnitude, that is more than I could have asked for. I can't wait to use it for more board game design/prototype projects.
