Good option for svelte men
on June 29, 2013
I don't know what happened to Men's watches, but I feel like I'm at a steampunk convention every time I shop for one. They all have faces the size of dinner plates and more dials and numbers than a Cessna. I prefer clean, simple, minimalist designs and, because I'm 6'4" and 160 lbs, I need a watch that doesn't make me feel like a kid who got into daddy's top drawer.
After unintentionally buying and returning a couple women's watches (I'll wear them, but not if I'm paying full price), I found this one at a local Jeweler for $95.00. So I promptly looked it up online and found it here for $56.00 and free shipping. (Other reviews have pegged it at $30.00 from Costco, so look there first)
Skagen markets itself as "Danish design" - I have no idea what that means because it clearly says "Japan" on the back. But, hey, I'll eat Haagen-Daz even though that's just a made up word. The watch is very slim, with a reasonable weight, and seems well made. The gun-metal gray face has a great luster and contrasts well with the brushed metal band and bezel. However, the band has quickly become scuffed from my strenuous desk-jockey job, where I might type on a keyboard for several hours. However, it's the usual sort of worn-metal look, and has it's own kind of beauty. Wabe sabe and all that.
Taking out bands was a snap. I tapped them out with a rubberized screwdriver handle and a pushpin. It was easy enough that I went back and forth between taking out 4 links or 5 links a couple times, just make sure. I went with 5 links because i have the forearm bones of a large flightless bird.
I highly recommend this watch for anyone who doesn't regularly dress up like a machine-gun toting Abraham Lincoln.
