In sunny conditions, the watch needs 16.9 hours for a full charge and 6 minutes for 1 days operation. With indoor fluorescent lighting those numbers are 484 hours and 2.8 hours. So make sure your watch gets enough sun exposure, I usually just keep it close to the windows when not in use and it has not given me any trouble in the one month I have owned it. Also when the watch looses power it should warn you by moving the seconds hand every 2 seconds instead of 1 second. I'm not sure of how these stats compare with other solar watches. One more thing, the hour and minute hand as well as all the 10 minute markers glow in the dark
Now if only they made a version in black with titanium and swiss movement.
I have been trying to find out how long this watch can run in the dark after a full charge since Skagen does not include that information. But since they mention that it uses a Miyota Japanese movement I searched to see what all solar movements are made my Miyota. It turns out that only one solar movement is listed on Miyotas webpage and looking at the pdf files posted there, it seem that the solar cell shape on this Skagen watch matches it.Read more ›
The only thing I can think of is that there was a temperature differential that broke the glass. if so, very cheap! I've never seen this happen to a watch I owned before. And I own a few other older Skagen watches.
Of course, the warranty doesn't cover ANY damage (due to manufacturer defect or otherwise) to the crystal. Guess I won't be buying him another. I think I'll get him a Casio solar to replace it.
However, after I had mine for about 5 months I got a small scratch on the face. The next day the crack spread across the entire face and the crystal fell out. If that hadn't happened, easily would have been a 5 star rating.

Looks great in the pic, but the watch face is large. Not good for a man with a smallish wrist.Published on December 17, 2013 by IMHO...
