This watch comes with three buttons and with the latest firmware/app version, you can assign a custom action to each button. I've got the middle button set to play/pause/next/previous, and the other two to volume up/down. It works great and is very reliable. Only once has it disconnected from my phone and it was easily fixed by re-launching the app. It works with the screen off and the device locked. If the music app is closed, when I press the play button it launches the app. This is a benefit or android rather than the watch, but I just wanted to explain how it works because I imagine my use case is a common one. My phone is a Nexus 6P.
The phone tracks your steps and your sleep cycle. In general it is fairly accurate, but nothing like a dedicated fitness device. For example, it won't know the difference between walking and biking somewhere, so your daily step counter will be just an estimate. Also, the sleep tracker gets confused if I wake up and immediately sit down to meditate: it will think I had an extra hour of restful sleep when in fact I walked around for a bit and then sat still for a while. The app shows you your stats in a very nice and intuitive manner: you can swipe for your stats for the day, for the week, and for the month, and you can swipe backwards and forwards to previous time periods as well.
The watch is very attractive, and fairly thin. You can't tell it's a smart watch at all. The face is technically grey but almost looks blue-grey, which is a great look. I dislike the watch strap because I find it somewhat difficult to buckle, and there's no good replacement metal link strap offered by Skagen (they have a steel mesh option but it looks too feminine I think). If you want to swap to a different watch strap it's extremely easy to do so: no tools required for Skagen replacement straps.
I think this is a very good-looking and functionally strong watch. You can't do better for a hybrid smart watch, especially at this price point. I wish the strap was easier to buckle and I would also appreciate if it was more water resistant (it's only ATM3).
Sure it doesn't read my heart rate. Look at the Nokia Steel HR if that's important for you. I love seeing how well I slept and being able to see a 2nd time zone for my family that lives in Europe.
My beef: the notification vibrations are borderline imperceivable. My guess is that because of the slim body, Skagen was unable to fit a large enough vibration motor to be felt unless you are actively focusing on it. For me this is a deal breaker

First, it's not too heavy nor too huge to wear around. That's nice.Read more
