| The History of Skagen Designs |
In 1987, Henrik and Charlotte Jorst came to the United States from their native Denmark to follow a dream: that of owning and running their own business. Skagen Designs was founded by these two natives of Copenhagen on the principle that beautifully designed, high-quality objects can be created at reasonable prices. The Skagen Collection of watches reflects the Jorsts' creative Danish spirit with clean, elegant designs, skillful craftsmanship and technical perfection. When you purchase a piece from the Skagen Collection, you become part of an international community of Skagen owners who believe in a philosophy of design and manufacturing excellence.
Skagen Trend Spotting
In the market place, time never stands still and so our innovation never sits idle. Our design team is on the pulse of current fashions, with regular visits to design centers of the world including Denmark, Switzerland,Italy, France, New York and Hong Kong. We are never content to follow established trends. We stay true to our classic design philosophy and interpret trends accordingly. We observe, listen and innovate - all to create lasting design pieces.
The production of such lasting design pieces often demands special processes and tooling. These are often a challenge to create; however, we are never satisfied with "close enough". We continually push and fine-tune designs to stay true to our standards. We know what we want and are not satisfied until the design, material and workmanship are all just right. The result of such hard work and dedication speak for themselves in the jaw dropping enthusiasm and excitement created whenever anyone views our product line.
Maintaining Your Skagen Watch
All Skagen watches operate with standard batteries. When necessary, any jeweler can replace them for you. Different models are water resistant to varying degrees. Please refer to the back of your watch for the water resistant rating.
How To Set The Time And Date
Cleaning Your Skagen Watch
Skagen suggests the following solutions for cleaning metal and crystal surfaces:
These suggested solutions will evaporate cleanly from metal and glass surfaces. Soap will leave residue behind when dry.
To clean the case and crystal:
Moisten a soft cloth with one of the above solutions. Gently wipe the case and crystal clean. Be careful not to put too much stress on the crystal as you clean. *NEVER immerse or soak the case/crystal portion of the watch, regardless of water resistance rating. Moisture could seep past the seals over time.
To clean the band or strap:
Skagen soft mesh bands are easily adjustable. Simply insert a small screwdriver or similar tool into the clasp. Lift up the clasp without applying pressure to the thin pin across the clasp and move to desired position. Snap closed securely. Make sure the clasp is set in one of the indentations on the back of the band. Link bands are completely adjustable anywhere watches are serviced.
Dip a cotton swab in the above solution, and gently rub it into the soiled portion of the band. For more intricate mesh bands, you may want to use a soft bristle toothbrush or nailbrush. Be sure to cover the case of the watch during this process so as not to soak it. For stubborn soil, you may want to bring it to a jeweler for a professional cleaning.
Simply wipe them down with a damp, soft cloth. Avoid soaps and solvents as they may dry or crack the plastic.
Top grain leather can be characterized by its smooth, somewhat shiny appearance. To clean this type of leather, follow the same procedure as with the rubber watchband. Simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth, using water only. You may want to use leather conditioner or a small amount of hand lotion to keep the leather supple over time. Top grain leather may develop a milky "haze" if left alone for extended periods. This can simply be wiped away or removed with leather conditioner.
This is essentially full grain leather with the top layer shaved off, leaving a flat, smooth finish. A product called a "nubuck eraser" can be found at better shoe repair shops. It will help to remove most light stains and debris from nubuck.

After receiving the watch I was even more impressed with its beauty. The ceramic band, crystal bezel, sturdy clasp, and Mother of Pearl watch face, say quality. The finish and workmanship show through as well; as does the lifetime warranty.
It is not cheap, but is reasonable when compared to other quality ceramic watches. Besides, the look on my very deserving wife's face let me know that I had made a good decision, and she had gained a prized possession.
It is very good and ceramic looks very rich and elegant. I was afraid white wouldnt match with most of my clothes. Realized thats not true. I am wearing it almost on everything for which i would wear a silver watch (alomost daily now). still is looking good, i use things a little rough, but this did stand strong and no scratches/damage yet :) which speaks of the quality.
The watch does come with a lengthy band and we are supposed to get some links out (through a jeweller or some one at Macys or Dillards staff or some watch repair guy). I am a petite and my wrist is almost like a kid/teenager wrist and I got few of the links removed by a watch repair guy in the mall and saved those for later in case I get fat ;). It fits well (did keep it a lil loose on my wrist to get that bracelet style) and looks good on me.
The only disappointment for me was that I didnt see this watch in person before I bought it. I saw some of the skagen watches at Dillards store before and they all (were not ceramic though) had the same type of a dial as this one with those beautiful looking bezel with stones. And those dials were pretty big than this one - kind of oversized. I wanted to buy an oversized dial watch this time and thinking that this watch would have the Dial as big as those, I ordered it. But to my disappointment my guess was wrong and the dial was of normal size (definitely not small- perfect size for a watch I would say). Yeah, the watch still looks good, so I kept it.
This is a classy-looking watch and light weight than other ceramic ones(DKNY, Fossil, Micheal knors, etc). Clasp hides well, and all you see is the ceramic strap -nice.
If this watch fits, right out of the box, its a great looking watch, and as I said, great movement. Careful if you try to size it!
A few notes:
I tried to remove the links without the proper tools and broke both the clasp and a few links in the process. Fortunately, I was able to ship it the repair company advertised by Skagen and they replaced the band for $32. This watch seems a bit fragile (as are all ceramic watches) so I am thankful that the band is easy to replace in case something happens in the future.
As for the crystals falling out, I don't think this will be an issue. I don't know how the other reviewer's fell out because they are not exposed.
The main picture on Amazon doesn't show the exact watch. The '12' and '6' and the inner circle are gold. Doesn't bother me though, it still looks great. The picture on the wrist shows gold I believe.
