Product Description

This 608ZZ bearing is a double shielded miniature ball bearing measuring 8x22x7. This single-row bearing is built to support radial loads and has a revolutions per minute (RPM) limit of 34,000 with greased lubrication. It is made from carbon steel for durability and resistance to deformity under heavy loads. This bearing is shielded on both sides to keep lubricant in and contaminants out. The 608ZZ bearing is suitable for use in such applications as skateboards, inline skates, and scooters and comes in a pack of eight.

Rolling bearings use rolling elements to maintain the separation between moving parts to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. These elements can be one of the following types: ball, cylindrical, spherical, barrel, needle, spindle, or tapered. All rolling bearings are open, shielded, or sealed. Sealed bearings are lubricated with oil or grease in the bearing factory, while open and shielded bearings are meant to be lubricated in place, with periodic reapplication of lubrication, based on use. The shield protects the working parts of the bearing from environmental debris that may be introduced and could reduce the ball bearing speed and lifespan. Rolling bearings are used in a range of applications from agricultural machinery to conveying equipment, robotics, dental equipment, elevators, rolling mills, ship rudder shafts, and aggregate crushers, among others.

These plain and throughly pre-lubed(oh so very throughly so) permanently sealed bearings are most assuredly not what you want if you're looking for speed, however these would be perfect for that beat up old board that goes across blacktop/rough concrete/chipseal/etc that you don't want to spend a fortune on bearings just to wind up chewing them up in no time. Or maybe as a nice cheap temporary set to keep handy for just in case one of yours (or your friend's) good bearings decide to swarm.

In my case, they're also the perfect thing for my cheap wally world window a/c unit that uses these in the fan motor, with spares for future replacements. (run nearly 24/7, factory set lasted 1 year, current ones from another place 3 years & just starting to squeal on occasion. Now for the adventure of tearing the thing down again and finding out how long these will last!)

2012-03-24 update: These do not hold up well in a motor. One of the ones I put in my a/c fan motor just chewed itself up.

2013-05-17 update: Second pair doing much better than first. I had re-lubed them with thicker oil this time, which seems to have done the trick. Likely the factory lube was just too thin for the application. (higher rpms + higher heat + skateboard quality lube = bearing quickly going dry)

2014-10-06 update: a/c is dead now, too much freon has seeped out. Overall, this pack of 8 bearings was well worth it, they stretched the life of the unit several years past what it would've been originally.

Bearings arrived promptly. I am using them not for skateboards, but to build wooden toys for my grandson. It was helpful that the outside diameter of the bearing is 3/4 inch, so fits nicely into a 3/4 inch hole drilled in the wood. The inside diameter, 5/16 inch fits on a 5/16 bolt or shaft. I would purchase them again for this purpose.

I am not a skateboarder but needed these to make running wheels for a sugar glider. They fit perfectly inside a piece of PVC pipe and then I am able to attach the wheel easily.

No frills packaging is nice and not wasteful.

They are smooth as silk and for the price they couldn't expect better.

Bottom Line: smooth sealed bearings and a great price.

I used these bearings for 3D printer filament spool hubs, not in a skateboard, but they spin very fast and fit my needs well. They almost spin too well as a little tug on the filament will unroll a lot of filament. They are marked 608ZZO, which is not a designation I am familiar with but it seems like they might be at the top edge of the tolerance limits for a 22mm outer diameter, exactly 22mm as I measure them. This makes them super snug and since I'm using hard plastic, requires a little finesse to fit into the 22mm hole. I would recommend these for skate boards or any other use where you need an easy rolling bearing.

Bearings came quickly and well packaged. They work very well. I Highly recommend them. I'm am using them for a camera dolly that will be in close proximity to sound recording equipment so a quite bearing was important. These bearings fit the bill.

Failed within minuets of use. I replaced an identical pair of bearings in my belt sander - same bearing part number although it was 30 years old and made in USA - and it seized up very quickly. The other bearing was well on its way of failing when I disassembled the sander. No particulates were introduced nor was the max RPM even close - ~1800 RPM max. Made in China junk.

I feel like most bearings out there get compared to the Bones bearings. I have not tried any others, but as a machinist I have been around bearings of different types, and these don't really stand out as exceptional. Some roll better than others. I expect a bearing to spin freely for a few seconds before stopping. Some of these do, some don't. But I didn't spend much on these. And they're cheap enough to replace whenever you want. If you have a nice board with good wheels and trucks, get better bearings. If not, then there's no reason not to get these. And if you're using these for anything else (without a ton of stress on them) they'll work fine.

I picked these bearings up for a simple project for my 3D printer. For what I am doing with them, I am sure they will last a lifetime. Like many other reviewers mentioned, they were coated with a light oil, but if you have ever bought bearings before, you kind of expect that. They all rolled smooth and seemed to be within tolerance.
