I just took these on a 18 mile trail run right out of the box. They felt just as good as the 3 version(which was great). Too early to tell, but I like the upper better than the 3, almost completely seamless, no overlays. This is a max cushion shoe just like the Hoka or Altra Olympus. The bonus is you can get this shoe for less than half than the previous two I mentioned. Because of the high stack(max cushion) it is not as stable as shoes that have a lower stack height. You can feel this on very narrow trails or the occasional rock. But other than that, these are a great option for someone who wants a "cush" ride for longer trail runs or short recovery runs. My 3's are not showing much wear and I expect to get similar results from these. I have the new Hoka Speedgoats 2 which I really like and I'm not sure If I'm going with the Speedgoats or the Ultra 4's for my trail marathon in December. That's how much I like these.
So when running in these shoes for long distance .. I find my self dragging my feet after the 10 km.
Iv already put in them about 180 km...and still feel the same unpleasant feeling when running.
While im a big fan of skechers ...iv bought a Altra paradigm 2.5 and they are zero drop..and decided to give it a try ...they gave quite a feet pain from the zero drop at first...and I didn't get used to it totally.
But to compare it to the ultra 4 . Altra is better ..lighter ..more comfortable.
Tomorow I have a HM to run..i dont think i will be able to finish with heavy stiff skechers ultra 4....im going to go with Altra...
Hoka, Saucony, or Brooks running shoes. The cushion lasts far more miles than others.
