I was first introduced to this band right before the cd came out in late 92. I heard their first singel "If the walls could talk, and i was blown away, i thought wow, this guy can sing, and later i found out it was a woman. ever since then i have been a skew fan. Nina has a set of pipes the likes of Steve Whiteman,
Kevin Steele, and other sleeze rock singers. This band is very underated and very heavy. Close your eyes and picture Accept with a female singer, and you have Skew Sisken. Every song on this cd rocks ass, Heavy dutie guitars that will slap your ass, and drums that will wake God himself.I have heard a lot of their music, and i am looking forward to seeing these rockers live one day.
SONG BY SONG:
1:IF THE WALLS COULD TALK: A graet CD opener, with a catchy sing a long. A song about doing the naughty things when mom and dad are gone. simple, great...love it.
2: OUT OF CONTROL: A Accept groove song here. lots of energy and kind of hints a little grunge in some parts.
3: I WANNA KNOW: If i ever saw these guys live, this is the song i would want them to open the gig with, very good guitar parts in the begining.
4: LIVIN ON THE RED LINE: I think of war when i hear this, for some reason it makes me want to kill. if your a big ac dc fan you will love this song.
5: IN ANOTHER WORLD: My fave on this disk. this is their epic song, running over 10min long. the theme revolves around i am sure the unexplained, with a great 4 min or so guitar well, and a drum solo that will melt your head. this i am sure is a fan fave live.
6: I GOTA GO AWAY: This is a great song, very fast and remindes me of a freight train. if your parents ever piss you off, play this on 10....trust me.
7: WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN: Ahhhh the ballad.

Skew Siskin was another one of the "too tough for pop" rocker chick bands that seemed to be everywhere in the first couple years of the `90s. Unlike similar artists Saraya, Chrissy Steele, Cell Mates, Robin Beck, Harlow, and Vixen, Skew Siskin rocked pretty darned hard. I wouldn't exactly call them a metal band, but they didn't flirt with the AOR sound they way those others did.

Skew Siskin's sound was driven by two elements - hard charging guitarist Jim Voxx and powerhouse vocalist Nina Alice. Voxx wasn't just serving up the same old hooks and solos. He had a Hendrix-inspired experimental style that really stands out, especially on the 12+ minute song "In Another World". This is more a guitar rock album than a showcase for just another pretty face. Of course it helps when the voice behind said face is as ballsy as Nina Alice's. She's a rocker, pure and simple. When she's belting out a cover of the Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night" in that bluesy and slightly raspy voice it's easy to picture her with a stiletto heel on some guy's back, bottle in one hand, microphone in the other.

1992 was not the best year to be starting out in the hard rock/hair metal band field, so despite some early European success it's not terribly surprising that Skew Siskin's career didn't take off. Unlike a lot of their peers, the band continued to release albums throughout the 90's and is still more or less active.

You can still get this disc for a buck or two, so if you're into the hard rock and hair metal scene from the late 80's and early 90's, you'll probably enjoy Skew Siskin's self-titled debut album.
