Skinner mercifully doesn't overreach for explanations to the phenomena. Of course, we all want to know what's going on, but proposing explanations without sufficient evidence just puts limitations on our understanding. If you decide "It's aliens" or "It's gods and demons" or "It's swamp gas," you're going to see everything through that filter and miss out on any material that might point in a different direction.
The book could be a bit more polished; it could have used an editor to give it a bit clearer structure and a copy editor for the text, but as for the content, if you're at all interested in the ranch or the phenomena, this is an extremely valuable resource.
For those not familiar with Skinwalker Ranch, in addition to his prior book the first author also runs a website devoted to the topic. Other books have also been published about the area and discussion of the ranch is featured on various paranormal podcasts. This book fits into that web of information, but it also stands alone as an excellent read and an introduction to a fascinating topic.
Some of the accounts given in this book were much less sensational than what I had been led to believe the phenomena associated with the ranch were, while others were completely new and just jaw-dropping. The book is a very enjoyable read because it is a series of first-person accounts collected from a variety of sources woven together in a straightforward way. You get to hear people speak in their own voices, which paints a different picture than if the author is telling you about them.
Note the cessation of the phenomena when investigators approach. We are the creatures in the test tube not them. Trickster refers to the fact that they want to confound & scare us but not drive us away because we amuse them too much. In our so called modern world, we call them ultra-terrestrials. In the Muslim world they're known as jinn, which we know as genies. They may even need us if abductions are real.
