Skip Hop Duo DeluxeDiaper Bag

Innovative. Versatile. Stylish. Durable.

The Skip Hop DUO's multitude of pockets and compartments easily organize diapers, bottles, sippy cups, food and toys, while keeping your phone, PDA, wallet, keys and other personal items safe and dry. The Deluxe Edition features the new Shuttle Clips; a unique strap and fastening system that allows the DUO to attach neatly and conveniently to the handlebars of any stroller and then convert into a cool, hip shoulder bag. When attached to the stroller, you can leave the shoulder strap attached or remove it for a cleaner look. The Duo Deluxe Edition is 30% larger than the original - so there's room for all your essentials - and it includes new magnetic closures throughout. The DUO's clean, modern design has been a favorite of moms and dads for years, and the Deluxe Edition improves on it in every way.

I wish I'd done more research on diaper bags before purchasing the Duo Deluxe. I trust Amazon reviews, and this was ranked high in the baby category. Besides. A diaper bag is a diaper bag is a diaper bag, right? Wrong. This bag is actually okay. If you pack it neatly, you can get a lot in this bag. However, in real life, when you're on the road or at a doctor's appointment or running errands, your diaper bag generally doesn't stay neatly packed. This bag doesn't offer a lot of space and it doesn't have very many compartments to keep you organized. I also don't like that the pockets are magnetized. It only takes one item to keep the pockets from closing and completely reshape the bag. The back compartment, where the changing pad lives, disfigures and the changing pad gets folded. The Duo Deluxe might actually work for a mom who packs light. Perhaps one packing for a toddler. For someone like me, it's way too small. I decided to designate this as "the daddy bag." My husband only needs the basic essentials and I can send this with my son when he visits my mother-in-law.

I do love that there's a cell phone pocket on the outside of the bag. As a Social Media Strategist and self-proclaimed tech nerd, I always always always need quick access to my phone. Also to make more of the space, I purchased a plastic makeup organizer from Walgreens to house all the loose items (travel sized lotion and powder, nail clippers, thermometer, vaseline lip therapy, etc) I also tied some blue tulle around 5 diapers and made my own diaper strap. I'll try to upload a picture of inside my bag to the customer photos.

Anyway, after a lot of research and hours of YouTube "What's in my diaper bag?" videos, I've decided to buy myself the Skip Hop Studio Bag. I like to carry enough for those what-if situations.

I don't use this as a diaper bag I live in NYC so I need practical and easy to carry, it's super functional for a girl on the go....it's great! Everything fits here, laptop, cell, notebooks, books, magazines, and the front and side pockets are easy access for Metro card, cell, money, water bottle and etc.

First, to put my review in context, I am a new mom (my baby is now 6 months old, so I've been using the bag for 6 months). I use this bag both as a diaper bag and to carry my essentials. The way I have the bag set up is as follows: the front two pockets I use for some random little stuff, but nothing too valuable because they are easily accessible. The zip pockets on top I use to carry my own stuff, and the main compartment inside I have baby's basics: one spare outfit, a burp cloth, small receiving blanket, and my nursing cover (folds to about the same size as the blanket). I use the inner pockets in there to hold no more than 3-4 diapers, and a small pack of wipes in the other. The very back pocket holds the changing pad and sometimes my shopping lists. With that, this bag is PACKED. Notice there are NO toys, books, bottles, snacks, etc.

I registered for this bag (and received it as a gift for my baby shower) based on it's stellar reviews. My experience however has been much more similar to the 3, 2 and 1 star reviews I've read on here.

The great things about this bag are that it doesn't feel huge and bulky to carry around, it's nice looking, my husband doesn't mind carrying it, the material is strong and durable, and those shuttle clips are fabulous. That said, I have two complaints about this bag:

1. It's too small. I am always struggling to jam things in, or digging to get something out without turning the whole bag upside down. When my husband puts something into the bag, he just wads it and stuffs it in there. So for a bag that we both use, it's frustrating when I go back to it and have to carefully re-fold everything to utterly maximize the space.

I have not had a chance to use this yet, as I am still pregnant and waiting for my LO to arrive. The product quality is awesome! It feels really durable and well made. The only thing I am thinking might be a downer is the size. It is very thin, similar to a laptop case. It does have a lot of pockets in it which is nice. I have only packed enough stuff needed to take to the hospital:

- 5 Diapers
- Portable wipes container
- 3 onesies
- 1 sleeper outfit
- 4 Pairs of socks
- 3 Receiving blankets
- Changing pad (the bag comes with this)

There is still some room to fit a couple bottles, 2-3 at least, a toy maybe, travel sized diaper cream and baby powder, a book (if you think you are going to have time to read) and a room for a small container of formula.

I plan on nursing so I don't need the extra space for the bottles and my stroller has lots of space in the bottom basket to carry a blanket to cover up while nursing. (Wouldn't want to put a blanket in a diaper bag anyways because that would take up half of any bag!)

I really like the straps that connect over the stroller handle, so if you need something from the diaper bag, it's literally right in front of you, so you don't need to bend down and dig it out of the bottom basket.

It also has a strap that extends so it can be carried like a messenger bag which my husband really likes. It's not all girly which I like because who wants a diaper bag that looks like a purse? I want my purse to be very distinguishable from my babies diaper bag, but that's just me!
