So before picking a new set of buds I considered the form factor more carefully. I don't really like the "ear clip" style, and wanted something that would stay put while being comfortable. I took a chance on these because my kids have had several Skullcandy headsets over the years and have liked them. And now, so do !.
The "yoke" style collar-cord with weighted ends is very stable and the earbud cords are thin and flexible, making it easy to move and to pull a bud out to talk without knocking the other bud around. And since the buds themselves are very small, with light cords and no clips, they're practically weightless and comfy. Despite the larger batteries in the collar, it too is pretty light, but those big batteries mean a day's worth of use. I'm getting at least 6 hours out of a charge if not more, and blessings upon us, you can listen while charging if you have to!
Sound quality is good - these are clear with podcasts, Twitch streams and Metallica marathons. Decent bass too. I have no standard for comparing with more expensive headphones or can-style phones as I have been an earbud user for decades. But these sound great, are affordable, and comfortably practical.
Now, for the caveat, and it likely only applies to a handful of potential customers, though it should be true for almost ALL BT devices, not just these: I use these with a dual-boot PC (Linux / Windows) in addition to my phone. I was having problems getting pairing to work in both OSes. I could use these in both, but pairing in one effectively unpaired the other, requiring a new pair-up. Which would undo the first, and so on. Turns out the problem is the headphones don't realize they're paring to the same BT adapter and each pairing resets the pairing key. There is a process to manually set the pairing key to be the same in both OSes after an initial pairing in each (needed to set up local files/registry entries).
Google "bluetooth dual boot linux windows" and good luck! It's a bit of a slog but if you already went through the work to dual-boot then this is just a minor bump in the road to a smooth experience in both OSes.
Being a fan of the company i decided to buckle down and give wireless headsets a Shot. While i didnt want to go all out and drop $200 dollars i didnt want some cheap garbage set that would last as long as the price.
That being said, these are great for the money they are comfy , decent quality and construction. If your looking for all around lows mids and highs you might wanna reconsider you're purchase. While most skull candy headsets and ear buds pack a mighty bass they sort of lack the mid to high range. Also i dont know if this is because the machinary im around at work or what but for whatever reason i seem to lose connect or more it gets distorted and breaks up even when my phone is on my hip, it sometimes happens when i move or bend. Can't tell if its the wires or the bluetooth itself but its annoying and its somthing i wanted to avoid back when i used wired ear buds exclusively.
The battery life is true to its word it will last for all of 7-8 hours depending on use though for some reason it takes a considerble amount of time to charge them which i thought was odd.
Over all decent but dont get your hopes up.
Cons, broke after 1 month (doesnt power on). Sent back using skullcandy warranty, will see how customer service is and hopefully this is a one off.
Comparisons, Jaybird x3 has better sound, more bass but for the extra money its questionable. also falls out of my ear constantly. x2 didnt have same fall out issue. if skullcandy didnt break so quickly, it would win
Powerbeats 3 also better sound and good for workouts with the hook. BUT they have broken (doesnt power on) 4 times already in 8 months. covered by apple warranty for 1 year but if time is money, these are beyond too expensive.
Update: apparently there is supposed to be a light that turns red to blue to indicate that the product is done charging. The light on my product does not work
