Top Customer Reviews
Build Quality: This headphone is built well, especially given Skullcandy's awful history of build quality. It has a metal band, premium pleather memory foam earpads, and a nice pleather feel on the headband. The cans are a solid feeling, heavy but not too heavy set. Score: 8/10
Features: Bluetooth is excellent streaming quality. It gives a feeling of noise cancelling although it's truly just PASSIVE noise cancelling, which is fine for me. The largest feature for me is probably the 40+ hours of usage i've gotten out of these cans. They truly are amazing amounts of battery capacity. The buttons are just normal like any other BT headset - Volume up, Volume down, Play/Pause/Call button. Features are all i'd expect and then some from a BT headset. Score:10/10
Sound Quality: As this is the most subjective, I'm going to give my opinion... my suggestion is to go to your nearest BestBuy and listen to them. I've had 5 coworkers listen and they're absolutely blown away at the bass. This is my favorite part of them. However, even with the bass as the lowest setting, you still find the higher mids quite recessed. Highs are great and hyper-bass is quite fair as well. Overall this is somewhat of a bass-skewed U shape that feels so warm and pleasant to my ears. Definitely not for everyone and DEFINITELY not for producers/mixers/engineers. My subjective sound quality score: 9/10
Price: I got these boys for a lucky $99 during a black friday sale, which is half of the MSRP. I will definitely be keeping them at this price, and i say up to around $150 these are a great deal. The premium feel and LIFETIME WARRANTY is an extremely compelling to any set of cans, on top of the awesome sound they have. Price Score: 10/10
Design: Here's where i have my greatest complaints... The earpads don't swivel horizontally (which is annoying but tons of headphones don't). They also don't swivel vertically more than about 5 degrees... this means the bottom of the pad clamps your head more than the top if you have a large head like mine. You feel quite a bit of pressure underneath your ear after a bit of time, leading to more clamping fatigue than desired. The bass radiators also are a bit of a pain since if you have anything hit the headphones, or if you tap on it, or if you step too hard, you feel a very low twang in the headphones, even if they're off. This is almost comical so i'm not terribly weary of it, and to me it's definitely something i can get over for the positive sound. Score: 7/10
Package Contents: Typical contents and accessories: felt bag (not hard so it offers zero protection) with storage pockets for cords; power/charge Micro USB; aux cord; manual. Score 0/0 (more for information)
Overall: Since I love trying out headphones, this is a pleasant addition to any arsenal of phones. Even if these are your only headphones, you'll enjoy the "fun" sound of the bass-heavy crushers. If you're listening to Classical, turn down the bass (and probably miss some of the detail and soundstage compared to an HD598 or the like); if you're listening to hip-hop, rock, pop, jazz... it'll be a very hard time not to turn the bass up so high it rattles your teeth. You'll have a lot of fun with these. Score 8/10
-Very solid, folding design
-Metal headband, leather top
-Memory foam ear cushions, not the cheap kind
-Well balanced audio without Haptic Bass feature
-Haptic Bass feature is no longer a gimmick, actually useful
-Bass can be adjusted; Can go hilariously crazy LOL
-Mids and Highs are very clean and clear, unlike past Skullcandy products
-40 Hours of battery life, wow
-Needs more color options (at time of this writing)
BUILD QUALITY AND MATERIAL
Skullcandy...we go way back. I remember the first Skullcandy headphone I bought, it was the original Hesh (photos included). Made of mostly plastic bits and pieces, that thing broke within a week. With these new Crusher wireless headphones though, that is not the case AT ALL! This headphone screams premium whenever I hold it. The headband has a leather top, metal inside, and a very soft rubber-like cushion with a small indent for a VR headband to fit. Skullcandy was obviously thinking ahead with that indent as VR (Virtual Reality) is becoming much more popular in media and gaming today. Moving to the earcups...though the outside is mostly made of plastic, it is a very sturdy and premium plastic. The ear cushions are made of a leather cover and memory foam on the inside. I checked if it was real memory foam by taking these headphones outside and exposing these headphones to cold environments. What cold temperatures does to real memory foam is make is hard, while heat makes it soft, and that is the case with these cushions! Real memory foam! On the left earcup you will find your bass slider/adjuster for the Haptic Bass feature of this headphone via an adjustable slider and a microphone for taking calls and recording audio. On the right earcup you will find your Power/Play/Pause button, Volume Up/Skip Forward button, Volume Down/Skip Back button on the backside, as well as 3.5mm and Micro USB inputs for wired listening and charging respectively.
I don't know about you, but when I look at the Crusher Wireless, it looks like the original Crusher and Hesh 2 Wireless had a baby, and the Grind was a distant relative...but that's just me. (All photos included...Of the headphones mentioned, not the process of how the Crusher Wireless was made..........)
USING THE CRUSHER WIRELESS
For sound quality, look below. Now for the experience of using the Crusher Wireless. This is the true definition of Virtual Reality Audio, you actually FEEL your music. The Haptic Bass feature in this headphone, when turned on, can turn the bass frequencies into something you can feel and experience. I remember when the original Crusher came out with this whole "Bass You Can Feel" branding, most of the reviews were split on the feature. Some said is was a gimmick, some said it really enhanced your music, and some were on the fence of both sides. I was one of those on the fence. I actually have the previous Crusher headphones (in a Galaxy themed color, photos included). This time around, I can truly say the Crusher Wireless makes the Haptic Bass feature a true addition to the headphone, and no longer a gimmick. As I have said, gaming with this is insane! When you get hit, hear an explosion, or rev your engine in a game, you can actually feel the hit, explosion, or engine revving up. This also ties into a better VR experience. You not only put yourself into a Virtual world via a headset, but put these headphones on as well and you have you own personal movie theater! It's honestly very crazy and fun! Of course, the slider on the left earcup can adjust the feedback you get. You can make it a minimal impact, hilariously max it out, or even turn it off completely. But try maxing it out for once, it will definitely give you a smile and may make you laugh at how bassy these cans can get!
Battery life can go up to 40 of listening time, of course more or less depending on your volume levels. If your battery does die out though, you can listen to your music with the provided audio cable as a backup. No you do not need charge to use the Haptic Bass when plugged in, which is a really good thing!
First let's talk about sound quality WITHOUT the Haptic Bass feature, to give a fair comparison to other headphones. I have done a sound test and comparison of the Crusher Wireless vs. the other headhones mentioned previously in this review, and what I can say is that these headphones gives the cleanest sound you may ever find on a Skullcandy headphone. My friend used to have the Aviators, and that is the kind of sound I remember while using these headphones without the Haptic Bass. Clean, crisp, balanced mids, punchy and thick yet not overpowering bass. If you used these headphones without ever using the extra bass feature, I can tell you that you will be completely satsfied, HANDS DOWN. Now let's move on to the main reason why you may have been looking at these headphones, THAT (adjustable) BASS.
Bass heads, EDM entusiasts, Rap and R&B lovers, these are the headphones for you! THESE HEADPHONES BUMP! You know that one guy driving down a quiet neighborhood with his bass and volume turned all the way up? These cans are like that car's speakers, when set at max bass response (slider all the way up). As for sound purists looking into these headphones, you can adjust these headphones's Haptic Bass to a lower setting, or even turn it off.
If you are familiar with the original Skullcandy Crusher, I put them to a bass comparison. During the comparison with the original Crusher I have (both put at max bass, on a bass heavy song), I noticed that the new Crusher Wireless have more bass response, if not DOUBLE the amount. To prove this, I set the new headphones' slider to half way and compared the bass after, and they were about the same.
I have used my Skullcandy Crusher Wireless for a good long period of time now, and ever since I first listened to these out of the box, I recommend them hands down. If you are scrolling through Amazon for some bassy heaphones, buy these! Skullcandy is obviously rewriting their history of bad headphones, and this is the TRUE start of it all.
I HIGHLY recommend the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless! SOLID 5/5 STARS
