Updated - I am moving my rating from a 2 to 4 stars because I really like the audio part of the headset. I wear my headset 6-8 hours per day for work. And yes it has broken twice on me now. I think the screws on the headset are not well constructed. For anyone that has purchased this and cannot return the headset, I went to the hardware store and bought $2 worth of nuts and bolts and I drilled out the existing screws and added my own. This has been great ever since. You can see the attached pictures showing the original screws and the new nuts and bolts I added after drilling out the original screws. I'm sure this will void your warranty but since my warranty had expired I was ok doing this.
There is a design flaw where on the band of the headset, where the band expands. (the red part on the white colorway)
After about 2 weeks the plastic and screws that held the cup of the earpiece on the band, just snapped off..
I have it jury rigged with tape for now (this break just happened) and might update this later if anything else falls apart.
UPDATE: I decided to send back my first pair that had the plastic break, and see if I would have luck with a second set.
The second pair came to be with one side of the headphone not working, although the plastic seemed better quality? Just going to avoid these since for $5 more you can get Logitech or Corsair comparable headsets..
When I went to connect the headset to my Xbox 360, I immediately ran into issues. Since my 360 is hooked up to my TV through HDMI, there is no place to connect the component audio cables that come with the headset. As stated on the Skullcandy website, you need the Audio Dongle Adapter (found on Amazon for ~$8). I was lucky as my roommate wasn't using his dongle, so I was able to borrow his until mine arrived.
Once I had the dongle setup, I was blown away at the quality. Even though the headset doesn't have an Optical Audio jack, the quality of the sound was very impressive. The sub was explosive, but not over powering, and I was able to experience the game in whole new world. The ear phones do get a little uncomfortable on long gaming sessions, and my ears did heat up a tad, but simple adjustments and minor breaks eliminate those issues.
All in all, I can't complain about the headset. For the price it is well worth the purchase, especially for an introductory headset. I would recommend to a friend for purchase.
As far as performance, this headset is comfortable, sounds good for a stereo headset and best of all is wireless. I can walk around my apartment and out into the common hallway between apartments with no loss of signal. Battery life says 15 I haven't tried to run it out, but I've gotten 8 solid hours with no issues on the weekends.
Mic is a little picky in terms of positioning. Quality in terms of how it sounds but sometimes picks up breathing etc, it could definitely use a boom Mic foam cover thing.
It is a little more involved to setup and use than others I have owned but that is the price you pay for compatibility. The unit seems sturdy enough as the first thing I did was drop it about 9 feet over a balcony upon opening it and it suffered no damage.
It is great for people of varying head size and its comfortable even over a hat. Also the sound quality.... I was impressed it is easily better than wired Razer headset I own and better than my other Corsair wireless set, the mic is good and the boom is flexible.
The only reason not to buy this is if you have big ole dumbo ears as the ear cups might not fit well for you or if a detachable mic is a MUST.
Had the mic been detachable I would have given it 5 stars.
The headphones themselves worked great. After a bit I had people tell me I sounded very quiet and so I tried messing with settings on my computer, but ended up using them less and less. In Skullcandy's defense, it could have been a computer issue. But in my defense, regardless of how well they worked, they broke because of poor design.
