i think this might be one of the first few hijacking movie plots to be released so when it was released i guess many people found it intriguing. nowadays there are many hijacking movies that, like lots of other hackneyed plots that have been copied, in today's times this wouldn't be intriguing to want to see. which brings me to my reason for writing up this review......
yvette mimieux was my reason to want to see this-- she was an actress not given due attention or even much credit she truly deserves. she is one of the most excellent actresses in american history, in my opinion, but it seems the shadow her career was under for the most part during her time was perhaps because of her choices to do mostly television movies, avoiding hollywood blockbusters. some of those movies were just not too memorable & others were dumb, but her acting talent is memorable. she certainly is worthy of playing roles in huge pictures. explore her movies and you may agree her talent is difficult to forget, for example her role with a very young Tommy Lee jones "in Jackson County Jail", done when she was a little bit older. that movie proved this little lady has massive talent-power on the screen.

I am a "Heston" film fan and saw this older film while browsing for a video to rent. It had a well known cast, but some of the stunts looked fake. Yet, even with that, I still liked the movie. It was during a time when airline safety measures weren't in place and hijacking planes was much easier to do.

So let me say that this is one of the better disaster movies during the whole 70's and 80's disaster movies. Don''t get me wrong this is by no means a great movie but it is good and we get Charlton Heston saving the day again. This one though has some pretty good twists and turns. Great cast, too. Have a good time with this one.

I hadn't seen Skyjacked in years but I saw some bits on youtube and decided to take a chance. To my surprise, because sometimes movies are better in memory than present, this was very good. There's a much leaner plot than the bloated Airport movies, where every passenger had a life story to share. In fact, some of this almost feels like a TV movie, probably because so many small screen stars were onboard. Claude Akins and John Hillerman are (brief) air traffic controllers (Akins seems to be channelling Joe Patroni in the tower). Yvette Mimieux, in a ton of TV movies at this time, is the head stewardess. Susan Dey, in a really bad performance, was around Partridge time. Then there's veteran character actor Ken Swofford as the flight engineer, Rosey Grier as a jazz cellist (he's actually pretty good in this), Mariette Hartley as a very pregnant passenger (yeah, cliched)and Leslie Uggams as a feisty flight attendant. Walter Pidgeon is an elderly US Senator and Nichlos Hammond is his son, both unmemorable but to be fair, there's not much in the script for them. And in a performance that demonstrates graphically why he is now a purse carrier and actor in bad political movies financed by you know who, James Brolin is the mad bomber, so to speak. Brolin is astonishingly bad and over the top, even for a crazy hijacker.
So, you ask, what saves this movie? The megapresence of Charlton Heston of course. This is Heston's first entry into the 70s disaster field and by far his best. This is much better than Airport 75 or Earthquake or any other nonsense that followed. Heston's pilot Hank O'Hara is a decent, good man who is determined not to have anyone die on his plane and he is tough enough to back it up without bluster or bombast. In fact, Heston is rather understated in this performance and it's quite effective, especially as Brolin chews scenery.
As others have noted, this is more of a suspense movie than an action ride. Although not without faults, (the Heston/Mimieux subplot is a been there, done that waste of time) I rather liked my foray into the past. Much better than nearly all the movies nowdays.

The movie was kinda confusing and kept switching scenes. It was hard to follow the story line.

This is one of the best movies I have ever watched. I like it so much I play over and over again. My career was in the airlines so I can say I am thoroughly impressed with this movie.

Charlton Heston sets the pace along with other fine actors in this movie. Keeps you going from beginning to end about a mentally ill soldier who skyjacks the plane with weapons he brought onboard to go to Russia and offer his services to there army feeling betrayed by his military. Excellent buy.

Disaster movie fan searching for disaster movies

The sound I found was appalling. Even more so than Cheryl’s ‘singing’. Aside from that diabolical-ness. What you have here is a fairly enjoyable hi jack drama thriller. Charlton Heston can ALWAYS be relied upon to be dependable in even the most fraught of situations. A staggeringly youthful looking Mr Barbra Streisand plays one of the passengers and that’s about if for names you may have heard of. I believe this to be a Spanish import disc, which DOES play in English. No subtitles tho. For a disaster, it’s not really, Movie it runs a fairly brief 97 minutes. No extras. No explosions. Some quite nasty violence. And I always love it when the women try to fight back against the villainous baddies. Not the best, not the worst.

ENTRETENIDA AVENTURA DE SECUESTRO AEREO
Reviewed in Spain on August 18, 2017
