A Fad System that brings nothing really great to gaming.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter and she loves it. The appropriate age range for this game is about 8 yrs to 12 yrs. The game is very graphically pleasing on the Xbox One. The game play isn't extraordinary, when combined with extra champion purchases it makes this game system more of a Fad like Pokemon or something. To a kid they'll love it. To an adult the extra costs associated with this system will have you scratching your head why.

This game can definitely cost you a lot of money when buying additional champions which range from $8 to $15. This game is the 3rd in the Series. Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure & Skylanders: Giants were before it. Certain champions don't work with certain games. They reworked the old champions from the previous two games to work with Swap Force so supposedly all champions should work with Swap Force. When in doubt consult the Skylanders website champion section to verify game compatibility. The older champions may not show that they are compatible with Swap Force on their box so the web site is the best way to check.

You can use ANY champion on ANY gaming console platform. Example: Your child can take their Jet-Vac champion, play with it at home on their Xbox console, then go over their friends house and play on their Wii console. Only the game itself is console specific. The champions are not.

The Swap Force game is setup to use various different champions in order to fully complete the game. Example: There are sections within the game that only allow access to champions of the "Fire" realm. This means you would need at least one champion within the fire realm to go into that section of the game. Some doors require dual realms meaning you would need a champion from two different realms. There are some sections of the game that require a Skylanders: Giants champion to open certain chests within the game. There are also some sections of the game that require champions with certain movement types as well.

When buying champions you should strive to get at least one of each realm (eight realms total) first and then a Skylanders: Giants champion. This will allow you to get maximum play from the game with minimum champion purchases. At this time not all champions shown on the website are not even available yet. As of December 2013 the Turbo Jet-Vac isn't available despite being shown on their website.

The Lightcore champions glow when placed on the portal platform. The USB powered platform emits about a 6" radius electrical field which powers the Lightcore champions.

If you missed out the first time around, don't be afraid to jump in now!! Used figures are extremely cheap any more, and even if you want new ones, many of those can be found for about 60% or less of what they were going for originally. Just double check to ensure it's one of the 80 characters that works with this game if it's the only one you have. Any figure with a Blue, Orange, or Green bottom liner on the base with assuredly work with this game, assuming it isn't broken completely for whatever reason.

Swap Force is easily considered the best "Playground" in the entire Skylanders series. With Swap Zone challenges, the longest levels in the series, the longest story in the series, PvP battles, PvE Arena mode, Time Challenges, Special Challenges, Great Boss Battles, a plethra of elemental gates, individual Skylander tasks (pretty sure on this one......may have been giants only), and a difficulty slider, most players of the series logged the most hours into this game even if they didn't count it as their favorite.

This is THE Skylanders game to get some play out of your entire collection without getting overly repetitive. The entire story, All PvE Arena battles, and 25% of the swap zones will be available on the purchase of this game. This offers a little above the average offering of content in most A list games these days.

In order to play EVERYTHING in the game (which is not necessary, but fun), you will need the following: 6 Swap Force figures w/ the other 6 specialties (digger, sneaker, spinner, speester etc.), a figure of the Earth, Air, Tech, Undead, and Magic Element (which can be taken care of by the 6 Swappers) a Giant of any element, and the Tower of Time and Sheep Wreck Island pieces (all these last 2 have to do is touch the portal once in your game file and you're good. Borrow them for a second from a friend if they have them.)

The gimmick of "Swapping" your skylander's halves around is fun, but many folks enjoy the characters as they come. The non-swappable Skylanders that premiered in this game are some of the best in the series and a blast to play. You can't go wrong by just sticking to Skylanders with blue bases (and a single Giant of Course).

My 7 year old loves this and his 1 year old sister loves helping him "swap" his characters. For Christmas, we got him this and had friends/family who asked to get him more of the characters, so he has a nice collection.

It works with the Spyro series well - he likes some of the non-SWAP Force characters. We haven't tried giants yet, but I think they'll work as well.

It comes with 2 swappable characters and one non-swappable. And a poster that you can put stickers on to show which characters you already have and which ones you can ask Santa for next year. :)

The portal glows which makes it a magnet for his sister, so we have to keep it out of her reach to keep from pausing his game when she puts too many characters on or steals the one he has playing.

The graphics are nice - it reminds me of Sonic, but a bit more exciting. The main characters voice is Puddy from Seinfeld, so that's entertaining. I do get tired of hearing the characters shout out their catch phrases, but that happens with all video games and moms I think.

When it's no video game time, they play with the characters together as well, so it's a nice pause from "electronics" and still feel like they're playing the game.

The best part, he forgets about begging to play Minecraft and since Skylanders has stopping points, it's easier to get him to stop when time's up without a big fight.
