Lots of fun, easier than earlier games

I have enjoyed most of the offerings in the Skylanders series. I only play on 3ds xl, so take that into account. The portal is sturdier with each iteration. I like the world style less with each game. There is such beauty in the first two games this one pales beside them. The game lags badly at times, and loading between areas was VERY slow. I found a great many more bugs, like walls that let you fall through or places the game actually hangs. You also have to listen to the cut scene EVERY time. Other games those can be passed through. There are spurious inclusions where one has to use the stylus. They add little to the game experience and are actually distractions. One other quibble was the use of native American drum beats as "capture" music. Also the use of stereotypically southern accents to denote exclusively villains, and stupid ones at that. Please. The civil war is over. Generally gameplay is fun, not very challenging, more relaxing. Wish there had been more content. The old toy portals that let you go to additional content have become weapons in this game. I did enjoy it on the whole, but for the things I mentioned. I would buy it for a child who was patient enough to wait for load times. And I would talk with them about the stereotyping.

I always loved and defended the 3DS skylanders games when people put it down. Different from the console games but fun in their own platforming way.

This time around, I can not defend what will be my last skylanders game and I may return it if the problems continue. It should never have been sold in this state.

In short, the game freezes requiring a game restart. It happens occasionally during changing of skylanders during a level. Thus wasting my time and not even saving my progress. That alone makes this game broken. This came out in October in 2014. No updates to fix the problem, No patches nothing. Freezing is obviously the biggest problem. But there are horrible glitches. The worst glitch is the game simply gets stuck, you can hear your skylander moving around but the camera is still fixated on something else. For instance when talking to someone, the camera will focus on them. When it is time for you to stop talking to them, the camera stays fixed on them, meanwhile you can hear yourself walking around in the background. Usually this also requires a restart although sometimes pausing will get it out of that problem state. Thats another horrendous bug that shouldn't exist. Finally glitches galore. Falling through objects, losing my hats for no particular reason. Some worse than others obviously. The game is broken and I don't recommend anyone buy it...that pains me to say, as a person who long defended the 3DS version of Skylanders.

The shame is...it may very well be the best 3DS skylanders game yet. When it works, it is fun. Alot of new ideas and things were added to this one. But...if it is broken and you can't enjoy it. What is it all worth?

We had to have this for our 3DS. This is a lot like the wii or xbox version but you get to store the characters so you don't need to bring them with you everywhere. Of course if you have a lot of characters then that will take a while to set them all up in it. The characters are backwards compatible so every character from the original skylanders to trap force work on here. The game is pretty fun a lot like the console version but shrunken down so the levels are as long and things like that. We love Skylandders here. This game is a must for any fan

I love that you only need to add characters once. It saves them in your game so you don't need to point at the portal the entire time you play.
The portal was very sensitive. On some characters it took multiple tries to save. I found that holding the characters slightly above the portal helped. If I touched them to the portal there was an error.
The game play is fun with good pictures.

Well, my 6 year old saw this and really wanted it for Christmas. It was too hard for him. His older brother who is 9 plays the game on his 3DS. My 6 year old just couldn't figure it all out which was a real bummer since Santa is the one who got it for him. So to me, it was like a waste of money. I recommend this for kids older than 6, maybe 9 or 10 years old. And the other thing, I thought they would be using the interactive characters, but they don't. He just uses the game and not the characters when he plays it.
