I have a dishnet HD satellite. It is larger than the old none HD satellites. It is to heavy for this tripod. It wants to tip over even with the bunge cord. This causes the upper mast from being level. Worked with it for about 1.5 hrs. And never found a signal. I borrowed a friends larger (3foot) tripod and with in 10 min. I was watching tv.
I purchased this to mount a Yagi-style Antenna and it works perfectly for that purpose. It is a little heavier than I would like, but I knew that before ordering and that is a testament to the solid construction. It is plastic, but good plastic. The legs fold up (or are easily removed) and the mast pole comes off as well. It has an anchor that you screw into the ground (looks like a big spring) and then a small bungee cord you attach to the bottom to hold it down. My antenna has almost no wind load, so I doubt I will use that, but anyone mounting a dish or parabolic will probably want to. While also something I will not use, it did come with a bubble level and a compass. They are separate from the unit but there are spaces to put them on the mid-section. The bubble level snapped in place and seems to be relatively secure, but the compass is basically loose. The instructions say to remove the compass before use so the mast and other components do not interfere with its readings. Makes sense, but for being portable, I can see the compass easily getting lost. The other thing is the adjustment screw for the mast. You put it through a hole on the mid-section and then screw it to tighten the mast which works fine. However (once again) with this being portable it is another component that can easily fall off and become lost. I use the screw, so I care more about losing that than I do the compass. But, it is really a small detail and if I put another nut on it (on the outside) then the adjustment screw won't be able to fall out.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. If the compass attached somehow and the tension screw were a little better designed, I would have gave 5 Stars.
I had to drill a hole for the locking screw and nut. The hole wasn't drilled. The plastic base looked used and dirty. Maybe because the hole wasn't drilled and someone returned it. With the DishHD dish it is a little top heavy but a sand bag or weights can fix that issue. Like someone else said, it would be better if the legs locked in place. I needed something until my Dish Tailgater arrives.
