How is it that I'm only at the 25% mark and I've already fallen in love AND had my heart broken? I love Lake and Will, I already love Kel and Caulder, and I like Eddie too. Bold and brazen, that one, but I'm curious about the heart tattoos ...
My thoughts at 50%:
I can't put this book down. It's past midnight and I have to be up at five. My eyes are so tired I can't see and everything is a blur. But I can't put this book down.
My thoughts at 75%:
"So you keep your ocean, I'll take the Lake." I don't know if I'm delirious from exhaustion (it's 1:45am) or if Colleen Hoover some kind of witch doctor ... But I can't stop crying. The mom and the balloons and the slam ... It's just ... I can't. I just can't.
My thoughts at 100%:
It's 2:30 in the morning and I have to get up at five. I have no idea how I'm going to function tomorrow, when I'm supposed to be editing my 8th book for the final time before publication on Tuesday. I have no idea how I'm going to be productive and be a calm and patient mother when I'll be running on less three hours of sleep. And I have no idea how long it's going to take me to recover from this book ... But I bet it's gonna be a while. Five stars. If I could, I'd give it fifty.

I first read this book about five years ago, but someone borrowed it and never returned. So I got a new one instead. I could never forget this book because I remember immediately liking it after seeing a lyric from Avett Brothers. (Yes, Colleen, I know them because my father was a huge fan). I also loved this book because of the slam poetry. During that time, slam poetry was all new to me. Although, I've been reading and writing poems since high school and thought that poetry should always rhyme. When I finally learned about slamming, it was a breath of fresh air).
I also liked the taboo romance between the student and the teacher, but I loved the strong relationship between the families even deeper. Will and his struggles as a parent-brother-teacher-poet all rolled into one wasn't an easy feat. I admire his courage and dignity and control over the situation. Lake, understandably younger and a little immature, grew on me when she stood up for what she believed in (hello Principal Brill and the cancerous lung costume!)
But the most memorable character in the book, in my opinion, was Kel. Little brother Kel who was perceptive, understanding, sweet and most of all, a very adorable dork. Can't find fault with this young one.
This isn't my first book by Colleen Hoover although this was hers. (I first read Ugly Love and Maybe Someday before I read Slammed in 2014). I knew right along that Colleen was and is a talented writer and always broadens her horizons when it comes to writing her stories. She always offers something new on her plate and I love her for that. I butterflyingly love CoHo as much as I like carving pumpkins.

The story is about Lake (Layken) who moves from Texas to Michigan with her mother and little brother. As she backs up to their new home, she does not realise what is in store for her in her new hometown. For when she gets out of that truck she meets her new neighbour, the 21-year-old guy even her mother immediately approves of. It just happens that their suddenly formed deep emotions to each other has to be pushed aside..
This book made me love it pretty much immediately when I started reading it. It was quite an emotional read, making me sigh out loud, snicker and laugh, tear up and I came pretty damn close to actually crying too. It was a beautiful story. It was so good that it is making me think that the basic 1-5 stars rating scale just doesn't cover it. So that is why it is 5+.
In young adult books with romance in them the characters have a habit of falling for each other really easily and fast. Do you know what I mean? Well this book is romance and ya. But I have to say that the story in this, I really can buy it. There is something magical happening there. I really like the little brothers of the story, and I really like the main characters self-irony. I know I must often say that a book is an easy and a quick read, so I guess I have upgrade on that as well now, this was super easy and super fast. Infact, it felt pretty effortless.
Lake and Will. I think theirs is the most intoxicating, complicated and breathtakingly beautiful story in have had the pleasure of reading. They are like magnets pulling towards each other and nothing being able to stop that pull. It seems the harder they try to ignore it, the stronger that pull becomes. It almost feels that everything around them is trying to push them together. Even though the chemistry between the pair is undeniable and it literally jumps off the page at you, there is an innocence about their love that feels, well, just epic.
Have no doubt that your heart will be completely taken over. From Lake and Will to their little brothers becoming best friends to the stories surrounding them, from their last and in the present. Colleen has such a unique and compelling way of telling a story, the way she brings everything to life makes you feel like you are living her words and the characters are living around you. I am completely in awe of the way this story made me feel.
Now for book 2...
The item came in perfect condition and safely packaged. The quality of the cover is not very strong, it is thin and bent easily. The paper inside is thin but okay quality. The writing size and font is easy to read and overall the item is good.
‘Slammed’ is a book that once again showed me why Colleen Hoover is one of my all-time favorite authors. I absolutely fell in love with this book and literally flew through it because I just wanted to know what would happen next. but the ending was just too fast so that is why i am only giving it 4 stars
I'm glad I did, I loved the book and especially enjoyed Colleen's writing style. The book has humour, wit and a good dollop of heartache. This along with cracking characters and a great story line really make for the most enjoyable romance.
I'll definitely be sticking with this author now I have discovered her and have just downloaded Ugly Love. Only annoying thing for me was the price of the book, I think £5.99 for a kindle read is a bit much.
