Editorial Reviews

Best Books Blogs - "This is the first book ever for this new author, and one would expect to see some clumsiness in the dialogue, plot, storytelling, etc. After all, those types of things are learned over the course of time. Well I can only say, Holy Crap... If this was the first book ever for this new author, and we can expect they will get better the further he goes, then everyone is going to know who he is in just a couple of years. Yes. It is that good. If you are fan of this genre, you will love this story. The characters are enjoyable. In fact, while DJ is considered the main character, I loved the two others that make up the supporting cast equally. This is a fast paced thriller with believable events, a couple of twists that you never see coming, and an ending that will make you want to buy the next book instantly. If you're a fan of Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, Tom Clancy, or John Wick, you're going to love this book. The real question is, what producer will turn it into the next blockbuster movie?"

Book Blurbs - "If you did not know it, the Dies Hard series of movies was a n Action/Thriller novel series first. Well this book is very much in that same box. Only better. I know that is a comparison that may make you raise your eyebrows. But it is what it is. Suspense, Nonstop action, a huge twist, and a frustrating cliffhanger at the end. This book has it all."
Connor The Critique - "Unlike anything I have read in a while. It is a crime drama that will leave you breathless in it's pace. That is both a good thing, and a bad thing. It is good because before you know it, you are 9 chapters in. It is a bad thing because you have to turn the lights out because you have to get up and go to work tomorrow. Of course, you could do like I did. Call in sick the next day and just read straight through."

Moore Times - OK  "Out of all the books we have reviewed this year, this is The best new Action, the best new Thriller, the best new Suspense book out there. Couldn't put it down."

From the Author

Writing this book was an adventure for me. Not only was it the first book, but I broke all of the rules of normal book writing methodology, and instead employed a radical style that I don't recommend for anyone. Seriously.

Most Authors would normally outline a plot of some sort. They would make notes on character names, how those characters would be introduced to the plot line, a back story for those characters to help frame their thinking and who they are as individuals. They would brainstorm twists to the story line, and problems that will crop up and force the characters to overcome.

And that methodology would be correct. That is how it should be done. But that is certainly not how I did it.

Instead, I sat down at the keyboard with no clear direction. I thought I could envision a very general and loose plot line. By the end of the first chapter, those silly thoughts were long gone. Each sentence that was written, led to the next sentence. Each twist and turn happened organically. Unforced. Following no rules. Conversations happened on their own, with each character prompting the reply from the next character.

Twists and sudden direction changes, and obstacles for the characters to deal with, suddenly appeared in the next paragraph.

I was quite literally, along for the ride.

When I got to the end of the chapter, I was always of unsure of how to start the next. I would stare at the page for a second, then I would simply choose a first sentence and go. As soon as I did, it just began to flow again until I got to the end.

Now I have enough reviews to know that this process made for a great book. Even if I did do it completely wrong. It may notwork for others, but it apparently works for me. Especially for this type of genre. If I were writing a fantasy novel, I would have to go through the laborious process of inventing an entire world and all of the rules that make it function.
But this genre is decidedly less complicated. You open to the first page, strap yourself in, and allow yourself to be carried away on an adventure. It is probably the only reason my unorthodox style works.

For whatever the reason, I am convinced that if you like Action / Thriller / Adventure novels, you will like this book. DJ Slaughter may become your new favorite hero. I know he is mine.

James is a thriller writer with influences from Clancy, Flynn, Child, and others. He’s been featured in articles for Recoil Magazine and Off-Grid. Recoil listed him featured him in an article entitled: “Best Selling Authors Who Get It Right.” High praise indeed.

Born and raised in Louisiana, but currently residing in Oklahoma, James draws from his southern roots in his storytelling, creating a protagonist that is quiet and reserved, drawing on a commonsense approach to crime-fighting. The DJ Slaughter character, for example, is easily relatable. You know who he is pretty quick and can see yourself in his struggles. In a world of over-the-top heroes, James is a breath of fresh air.

James continues to write his popular DJ Slaughter series but is rumored to be secretly working on something exciting and new in the background. We can’t wait to see what he’s cooked up for us all.

Contact info, full list of books, and his homemade gumbo recipe can be found at

Here is what reviewers are saying about his books...

“…If you like action and adventure, look no further. This thriller was written right. It’s like John Wick got his motivation from DJ Slaughter…”

“…I’m a huge fan of Vince Flynn, now Kyle Mills, Lee Child, and Tom Clancy. Somehow, James has managed to put Reacher, Rapp, and Ryan into a blender and come up with something original. DJ Slaughter has the Mitch Rapp willingness to exact extreme violence, the loner Vigilante Justice characteristic of Jack Reacher, and the nobility and guy next door representation of Jack Ryan…”

“…Well lookie here. I got myself a new favorite hero…”

“…I got this as an audiobook for Audible and wasn’t disappointed. What lovable characters. Abbi is my favorite. She is a true female heroine. I could easily see her getting her own spin-off series. This is a suspense mystery thriller series that won’t let you down. Gripping…”

“…Easily a best pick for Kindle Unlimited…”
