...Are there any Kindle Unlimited books like Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, and Jack Ryan that deserve a spot on my Kindle? Yes. Yes there are!...
...A fast-paced action adventure series that only left me wanting more...
Seeing his wife and children slain before his eyes has him living a hermit lifestyle in Nowhere, Colorado. But time has a way of changing you, altering you, turning you into something else.
They say change is good. But is that always true?
When a chance encounter in a parking lot results in bloodshed, he finds himself on the run from both friends and enemies. It also has him facing off against the demons of his past. To end this once and for all, he must confront both his pursuers and himself.
The harsh reality is that no one knows who he really is, and neither does he.
On his vigilante quest for justice and revenge, he encounters two unlikely allies. One might help him fix his damaged soul. He could see himself choking the other.
This series takes the genre in a different direction.

...Pretty much has it all. Suspense, mystery, loads of action, and an antihero you want for a next-door neighbor...
...My new favorite hero...
...I assumed this hero was going to be like all of the rest. I was WRONG! It reads like a John Wick movie at times. And it is obvious the author knows his guns and his combat. No more unrealistic firearms or gun battles where there is an endless supply of ammunition. Our vigilante justice warrior even has the discipline to count his shots as they are being fired. I have never seen that before. And, there's a whole lot more in this series you haven't seen before. It's like the author tossed the genre on its head and came up with something else.

From the Author
Most Authors would normally outline a plot of some sort. They would make notes on character names, how those characters would be introduced to the plot line, a back story for those characters to help frame their thinking and who they are as individuals. They would brainstorm twists to the story line, and problems that will crop up and force the characters to overcome.
And that methodology would be correct. That is how it should be done. But that is certainly not how I did it.
Instead, I sat down at the keyboard with no clear direction. I thought I could envision a very general and loose plot line. By the end of the first chapter, those silly thoughts were long gone. Each sentence that was written, led to the next sentence. Each twist and turn happened organically. Unforced. Following no rules. Conversations happened on their own, with each character prompting the reply from the next character.
Twists and sudden direction changes, and obstacles for the characters to deal with, suddenly appeared in the next paragraph.
I was quite literally, along for the ride.
When I got to the end of the chapter, I was always of unsure of how to start the next. I would stare at the page for a second, then I would simply choose a first sentence and go. As soon as I did, it just began to flow again until I got to the end.
Now I have enough reviews to know that this process made for a great book. Even if I did do it completely wrong. It may notwork for others, but it apparently works for me. Especially for this type of genre. If I were writing a fantasy novel, I would have to go through the laborious process of inventing an entire world and all of the rules that make it function.
But this genre is decidedly less complicated. You open to the first page, strap yourself in, and allow yourself to be carried away on an adventure. It is probably the only reason my unorthodox style works.
For whatever the reason, I am convinced that if you like Action / Thriller / Adventure novels, you will like this book. DJ Slaughter may become your new favorite hero. I know he is mine.

This Beltz fella has got a spectacular career ahead of him if this is what he's capable right out of the box. It's a lot like a baseball player hitting a grand slam on his first at bat in the major leagues.
D.J. Slaughter is no cardboard action hero made from a thinly layered characterization strokes. Especially in the early chapters he feels like a real person you might know.
The way he is pulled into the story as a would be crime victim feels so real, like something you might read in the news.
The early action sequences are just breathtaking. Suspenseful, fast-paced, and oddly believable in an action hero sort of way. (Which means one you suspend disbelief, the action fits the story).
While I really like this book, it's not perfect. The first third of the story is much stronger than the rest. Right around the the time D.J. is in the hospital, the blood really starts flowing. My "oddly believable" comment largely refers to the early stages.
I got the feeling that the author took a break somewhere along the way and when he picked it back up, he sort of lost his mono.
Consider these comments to be constructive criticism, I loved the book and can't wait for the second volume.
Now, I hope Mr. Belts is busy writing.
The action from here on through the book, is fast and furious. DJ has unwittingly killed the son of a ruthless, brutal Mob Kingpin.
You will love, cry, cheer, and fear, for this new hero. You won't be able to help youself!
I have already started the next book in the series, and I'm hoping James Beltz writes a lot more books in this series!
DJ is a bad, bad man and I mean that as a compliment.
DJ is trying to recover from a heart-wrenching tragedy. He's moved to an isolated valley just trying to live his life. When a routine transaction turns into a bloodbath his quiet life is shattered for good.
The reference to Jack Reacher and Mitch Rapp in the book description is actually inaccurate. DJ is really a mix of the two. You have Reacher's singular force of nature mixed with Rapp's deadly intent and willingness to visit extreme violence on enemies.
The book was recommended to me so I really had no idea what I was getting into. I loved it. I'm always looking for books in this genre that can get my heart racing while making it impossible to put down.
The only negative thing to say about the book is that it has a cliffhanger ending. If it wasn't for the fact that the second book is already available I would have been much harder on the rating. It had all the elements any action/thriller fans look for and it's a series with another book out to fill your binging needs.
Also, it was so nice to read a book without having to drag my mind through a gutter of profanity and graphic adult situations.
I am looking forward to the next book.
Found some spelling mistakes in the story, and the entire storyline was RIDICULOUS, IMPLAUSIBLE and IMPOSSIBLE to believe!!!!!

DJ Slaughter is our hero here, a guy who lost his wife and children in devastating circumstances. Resulting in him living the life of a recluse, a recluse that is, who has a major interest in guns. He collects guns, you can never have too many guns! But when what should have been a simple gun deal went terribly wrong, his lonely, idyllic life in his cabin in his own canyon was gone for good.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I liked the style of writing by the author James Beltz.
This is book one in a series of adventures with DJ Slaughter, and the ending to this book has left me desperate to read book 2.
One hell of a cliff hanger, so now I have no choice but to read the rest of the series. :-)
