Cesar is the superintendent, and is one cruel, deceitful and demented character, played with a determination of a person who states he can never be happy. In the building is Clara, a perky and joyful person, who he is determined to ruin, an older woman, Veronica, who he simply is cruel to, and a young girl who knows too much for her own good, and blackmails Cesar.
Veronica is older, lives alone and has two dogs. She asks Cesar to mind them for one night, and that Rocio has a sensitive stomach, so only feed him a special food. Cesar gives the dog a pie that makes him very sick, and Cesar tells Veronica perhaps she needs to prepare for Rocio’s death. That really sets up the type of person he is. Near the end of the movie, he lies and shows a deliberate cruelty to her. It devastates her.
Cesar sneaks into Clara’s apartment, drugs her and also adds chemicals to her soap and creams, which gives her a rash. Critics will pounce upon the fact that what he uses cannot do what is shown in the movie. Yes, correct, but this is a movie, and it needs a plot line to put her unconscious. This is a pattern he continues with for weeks and weeks.
The movie slowly ramps things up, and the police start getting closer. He has sent letters, phone calls and messages to Clara, and is almost caught, as the police get closer and closer to where they are coming from. And he starts to get a little reckless.
I don’t consider this a horror movie, just an intense movie about a psychopath who shows no remorse over anything, and ruins other people. Will he get tripped up?
