This is a travesty. I feel ripped off. Two thumbs down. Doesn't deserve even one star.
The disc is under 30 minutes. The therapist starts off with some relaxation breathing, very cursory compared to other discs I have and not thorough enough to be effective. They she starts on her imagery, which is a shoddy endeavor. Visualizations are cursory, and just when you are getting into the garden part, off you fly to a beach and again that too is cursory. Nothing is developed into a meaningful useful mode. The music is pleasant but very short, to that when it stops you are awakened if you managed to fall asleep, not deeply as a good night's sleep, but from a nap for 10 or minutes or so. She signs off bidding you a good sleep but believe me this is not going to happen with this scattered shot performance. Any professional would be embarrassed, or should be, to have this as an example of their work.

This CD is another winner! They have a collection and this is the "sleep" version. I surely can say that the Sleep Well CD is absolutely fantastic! It is a bit hard to describe but the voice of Janet Montgomery is just so soothing, relaxing and calming. Her voice is soft and smooth which is very relaxing. What I take from guided imagery is that my mind and body is truly relaxed. After one "song"/track I surely feel rested and almost asleep already. Her voice and words are truly very inspiring and soothing to me. The Sleep Well CD is a combined duo with the voice of Janet Montgomery and the music by Jeff Gold. It truly is a beautiful match and perfect duo. With their talent combined it creates a very serene atmosphere.

I've struggled with insomnia since I was a pre-teen, and have tried various things to help me fall asleep, from meditation to medication and everything in between. I've always had fairly good results using progressive relaxation to help me fall asleep, and I've also used guided imagery as a daytime meditation technique to help relieve stress and anxiety. This CD combines those two techniques and sets them to soothing music with the goal of helping you not only fall asleep, but also to stay asleep and sleep more deeply.

The partnership of guided imagery and calming music is amazing. Music has always had a strong effect on my state of mind, and Jeff Gold's melodies are so well integrated into the imagery that you don't even consciously notice the music playing. And Janet's voice is incredibly soothing – she speaks in much the same volume and tone as a mother uses to soothe her children to sleep; calming, relaxing, and warm.

If you're not familiar with guided imagery, the cadence of the speech may sound strange at first. There are pauses in places other than where they'd be if someone were simply speaking to you, and emphasis is placed on different words than you may expect. Rather than a conversational tone or tempo, the rhythm is designed to aid you in the process of self hypnosis. And it works (for me, at least) – even sitting at my desk listening to the CD for review purposes, the combination of Jeff's music and Janet's voice lulls me into a calmer, drowsy state. Honestly, all I want to do right now is go lie down and take a nap and finish posting this review later!

I was introduced to The Live Well Series not too long ago. The Live Well Series featured a variety of CDs with guided imagery. If you're not familiar, its soft relaxing music performed by Jeff Gold with a sort of...well, pep talk along with it. There is a narrator, Janet Montgomery who is a certified hypnotherapist that speaks through the music and helps guide your mind to a calm and relaxing place. After getting my Sleep Well CD, I listened to it when I was having a really stressful day. I didn't listen to it at bedtime because I don't have a CD player in our bedroom but I did lay on the couch and listen to the CD as a sort of "cheer up buttercup" pep talk and a chance to just chill out, relax, calm my stress and calm down. I really liked it! The tone of the narrator's voice was soft, calming and reassuring. She had a very smooth flow in her voice and her choice of language was very easy for me to interpret and allow my mind to just start to wander. That was great! My mind just needed to go somewhere else for a while. Not think about all of the things that were stressing me out.

And I do really enjoy the background music! Jeff Gold is a great musician! Its uplifting but relaxing at the same time. I think the pairing of the music and the CD's narration were a very good fit. If you like guided imagery, then I would recommend giving this CD a listen! I can't wait to hear the rest of The Live Well Series!

Everyone seems to have their own way of drifting off to sleep for me it is a totally dark room with a fan going, my husband likes a light on with the fan, most of the time I win with total darkness, but I am awakened by the TV which he sneaks on from time to time.

All of my children including me also like to fall to sleep to music, which is great for drifting off too, but only if it is not to upbeat. When I was a teenager I used music to put my whole body to sleep, kind of shutting my body down one part at a time. Although I don't use music as much as I have in the past, I still do shut my body down to sleep without music on the most tense nights so I can get some sleep.

My daughter has been sick and sometimes I will sit up worrying about her, OK more often then not I am up worried about her and I find this is the only way I can get sleep anymore. The music from Jeff Gold really helps with this. So far my youngest daughter enjoys it as well. I received this as part of a promotion to facilitate a honest and unbiased review.
