We tried several different swaddle blankets -- Miracle Blanket - Baby Swaddling Blanket - Blueand Summer Infant SwaddleMe ,Blue/ White -- but this was the one we kept coming back to and liked the most. Unlike some other swaddle wraps, it's easy and intuitive to get the baby into this blanket. It's also harder for the baby to break out of it, thanks to the wide velcro area. And we loved that the zipper on the front gives easy access for middle-of-the-night diaper changes. Our SleepSacks have been washed countless times and hold up well -- just remember to attach the velcro to itself so that it doesn't stick to everything else in the washer!

One thing we don't like is that the quality of this product seems to have gone down, so I'm giving it 4 rather than 5 stars. We started with two used newborn-sized HALO SleepSacks (approx. 3 yrs old), and later we purchased two brand-new small-sized SleepSacks. Old SleepSacks: heavier-weight fabric, removable swaddle attached via a large velcro tab on the back and two smaller velcro tabs at the bottom front. New SleepSacks: thinner fabric, swaddle stitched in place along the center back and at two points on the bottom front. We found that the swaddle part of the new SleepSacks tended to bunch up near our baby's face as he wiggled and fussed, which didn't happen with the older SleepSacks. I attributed this to the thinner fabric and the flimsier construction -- the stitching just didn't hold the swaddle part low and flat around the baby's body as well as the velcro tabs did.

I'm torn on how to review this product. Up until last night/this morning, we have loved the SleepSack. We have not had issues with our baby moving the swaddle parts up around his face, but we did have another safety issue. The sleepsack we own is only a few weeks old and has only been laundered a few times. There was a loose thread from the zipper seam that I did not notice after pulling it from the laundry last night and swaddling my son for bedtime.

Overnight the thread became wrapped around one of my son's toes and his thigh. When he woke up slightly less happy than usual this am, I wondered what was wrong. Seeing a purple and black toe when I unzipped the sack made me sick to my stomach. We are lucky that he will likely get to keep his toe, but he will lose skin and the nail over the next days/weeks.

I'm disappointed that this product had an unraveled thread so quickly and with such little use.

My baby was great in the newborn size but quickly outgrew it due to her length. I bought her the small and was excited for her to room to move her legs. Sh slept terribly that night and I kept having to go in to fix the swaddle because it kept moving up her body when she wiggled. Finally, in the morning when she was screaming I got in there to find the swaddle covering her nose and mouth. By it moving up, her arm also got caught at the bottom. I don't know what was wrong with but the newborn size was great, but I'll never put her in this again. Needless to say I will be returning.

My son passed away last week while wearing this. He had never shown signs of rolling over and did so the first time in the night. My wife woke the next morning to find him face down and not breathing. He was unable to push himself up due to the swaddle.

Although I like the material because it isn't overly hot, I do not like the under part of this because my child easily slips his hand under and pulls it up towards his head which clearly has me concerned that he will strangle himself. I stopped using it immediately. Will never buy again for this reason.

Hi A. Richards, HALO here. I recently read your posting and wanted to offer some help. This can sometimes happen if the swaddle is too big for the baby, if it's not wrapped tightly enough, or the wings aren't secured properly. Also, some babies just prefer to sleep with their arms up vs. down, and will wriggle until they can get their arms up. Please first check that you are using the proper size for your baby: it comes in newborn 6-12lbs/19-23" and size small 13-18 lbs, 23-26"). If it's properly sized, you can also try swaddling him with one or both arms out of the swaddle. This can still provide the soothing snugness of the swaddle, but allow him to sleep with his arms up. Other parents have told us that this works like a charm, and helps to transition the baby from swaddling to a SleepSack wearable blanket when they're ready to give up the swaddle. I hope this helps!

When our daughter was born, we used swaddle blankets. Wow did that get exhausting unwrapping and rewrapping her at 8pm, 10pm, 12am... you get the idea! These SleepSacks saved our lives, and made nighttime feedings and changings so much more efficient. I undo the velcro outside so her arms are free while I'm nursing her, and it's very easy to re-wrap her once I'm done without waking her. Seriously, you will NOT regret purchasing this item, especially when it's 3am! :)

Read the 1 star reviews carefully, the ones about the baby ending up with the wings around their face and neck and ask yourself "is it worth the risk?"

I read them and thought maybe it's just a few cases, and then I had the exact same problem. With a bit of effort my baby can get her arms out and move the wings up around her neck. Making the wings tighter just means she has a tighter knot around her neck as the Velcro doesn't release when she does it.

When she's in it I can't sleep as any movement has me worried that she's about to strangle herself, and if she's quiet I'm worried she's already done it and isn't breathing. This thing does not give me peace of mind at all, so I cut the wings off and we occasionally use it as a sleep sack (with her arms free) as that's about all its good for.

In my experience swaddling really wasn't necessary, but if you want to then using a blanket is so much safer. If you baby breaks out, you end up with a baby in a loose blanket. If your baby tries to break out of this thing, the Velcro holds tight and you end up with tight Velcro strapped wings around the face and neck. In my experience and that of several others, this thing is dangerous. I'm not risking my child's life with it, and would strongly advise against its use.

Wile E Coyote, HALO here. As babies grow and develop they may become less satisfied to be swaddled all night long. Many parents and nurses have recommended swaddling older infants with their arms bent so that their hands are up towards their face. This position may give them the ability to break free of the swaddle wrap which is an appropriate development phase. Eventually, babies don't want to be swaddled anymore and self-soothing (like sucking on their fingers) is a comforting thing. We also recommend that when an infant shows signs of not wanting to be swaddled any longer or rolling over then it may be time to discontinue swaddling.
